Making a panama

For those who may have never seen a Panama in the making, the Permanent Style blog entry for August 4th has an image of a Panama being woven: http://www.permanentstyle.co.uk/

I can't even imagine the patience needed to do such a thing! Sure makes you appreciate the cost of true craftsmanship.

I am glad to see that the article at least made mention of Brent Black. Recently I have been doing a ton of reading about Panama Hats and my research led me directly to Brent's site where he has a bunch of information. For those interested in a photo tour of the journey that a hat takes from beginning to end then see the 15 links below. While the original article posted doesn't really discuss how Panama's are made, I would guess that most of us when thinking about making a Panama we really mean the blocking, shaping and finishing steps in the process as I suspect we don't have 2 to 3 months or the patience to weave a hat body. Other than Brent Black I have heard good things about Tom Gomez as well.
