Since we have the Salon view here is the National Review view. Written by Natasha Simons. Now I don't agree with everything that is stated, but I think it does explain how some of us are excited to see them leave the final stages of the Golden age, well others are dreading it.

Mad Men the Parodox of the Past.
That article really left a bad taste in my mouth. I think it overpoliticizes it. Most people I know don't go that deeply into philosophy and just enjoy it as a nighttime soap opera.

Does anyone else get bothered at seeing these actors in anything other than their 60's get ups? I have to say it does me. I suppose that means the show is doing a good job of selling the reality of itself, because everytime I see these cats in the news I remember they didn't actually live in that era.

Except for John Slattery, I think he does... his cameo as Howard Stark in Iron Man II was inspiring.

Yes! Every time I see the actors as themselves I feel like they're in disguise.

Elisabeth Moss is prettier as herself though.

I think that shows talent.

And for anyone who voted for my friend of a friend, thanks, she's up to 667 votes! But there's a gal with nearly 800 votes so dig deep folks!

I saw a trailer last night at the movies with Jon Hamm in it too. Funnily enough...he looked the same!!!

Going home tonight after work (Monday now here in Oz) to download the first ep of the new series. Yay!

Yeah...with plenty of slap ;)

So, what did we all think? Interesting start to the new season. Very understated and 6 months to a year ahead of the last ep I would say. Don is a very frustrated, angry man it seems. The fact that he's hiring hookers is quite surprising too, he's always been able to get almost any woman he has wanted in the past.

Things are no longer going so smooth for Don Draper. It's about time! I was really surprised at how he threw clients out of his office, though. That surprised me the most.

Good episode - I liked how it ended. And oh boy, there were some GREAT lines in it.

"Everyone thinks this is temporary." lol

This show is so full of subtlety! At first I thought it was a bit underwhelming... but the more I think on it, it was yet another fascinating study. Yes, Don is losing control, which of course makes me wonder about Dick Whitman. Will he surface again? Or will Don reinvent himself all over again because things are going not so hot for Don?

And what about his kids? And I just hate Betty so much! And where's Kenny? (such a crush on him!) The psychology of it all, the characters, the era, the situation(s) is just so well done and fascinating. Like that article posted recently, previous episodes have been "What's missing from this pretty picture?" I think this season will be much less about the pretty picture... last night wasn't too pretty, was it? ... SUCH a great show!

By the way... note the girl who turned Don down was very Betty-esque in looks, and the hooker was his typical dark and down-to-earth beauty (and her reference to her family was NOT lost on me). Nice juxtaposition between the hooker having family responsibilities and Don having none on Thanksgiving. Again, SUCH a great show! (OK, I'm done raving!:) )

Good episode. I think Don throwing them out of his office was very online with the conversation with the wsj reporter. I think he was lost but had finally figured out what he was about by the end of the episode. He is making himself out as an edgy maverick, not your typical grey flannel suit. Jmho

The last episode of Season 3 was the perfect lead in to the new feel. This episode was amazing! I like how Don was raw in so many ways. He's no longer cool and collected like he was before, he's on the edge of disaster. I'm really excited for next week...

I liked the premiere. I just haven't gotten used to the new dynamics of the show that I had grown to love in the past seasons. I find an attachment to the aspects of the show that really show how different it was back then, which gives that bout of nostalgia that I feel is fading year after year with the changing times. But it needs to change at some point before becoming boring, so I'm going into it with open arms, cause its a excellent show none the less.

"The times, they are a changing..."

A lot of changes in that decade which will see the death bell knell for many people and their class, their ethics, standards and values. For some it was a case of 'adapt or die.' Don is an adapter. He's a chameleon who will change his look and colour to suit his environment. As the environment of the world changes, so will he. Sadly, some of the people in MadMen, will not be able to adapt to the social revolution.

Interesting the power/role reversal that Don has *in his own privacy* with *the gal*...and the messages that is giving out.

Can't wait for the next enthralling episode ..!

Dove soap ran a MadManesque commercial during the encore presentation of MM this evening. Guys in skinny suits, secretary in a dress, 60s decor...It was halfway through the spot before I realized it wasn't MM.
