I decided on a shape for the crown of my new hat:

Now I just need to decide if I want to keep the brim flat or curve it slightly on the sides. I’ll wear it as-is for awhile and see how it feels.
I’ve learned a lot about hats in the past decade, and since it’s all self directed there’s some obvious stuff that I was in the dark about for a long time. I bought an Akubra Woomera 3 or so years ago because I wanted to shape it in a similar way, but I could never get it exactly how I wanted but didn’t know why.
The quality of the felt, the taper of the crown and the brim and even slight differences in height or width can change so much. It’s hard to make this hat into something I don’t like, whereas other hats I’ve had I had to work hard to make them into something I do.
All that to say: it’s worth it to get a custom hat. Especially working with someone like Michael who really knows his stuff.

The crease you have chosen is terrific. It really works with the felt hat dimensions. Congrats to both yourself and Michael for getting the hat "right."

My latest Gannon:

100% beaver FEPSA felt. Tim at Pure Beaver calls the color Pale Whale.
Narrow brim binding
6 ¼” open crown
3 ⅛” brim
Diamond pattern venting on the side of the crown

I let Michael make a lot of decisions on this hat. He hand-dyed the ribbon to get the color he wanted and he chose the “bow” style. The felt on the crown is very thin and soft. It was all shaped dry.

Notice the larger branding:

Now that is a felt hue and ribbon treatment that I can fully support! Terrific hat Brent. The crown has the easily creased appearance.

Brent, both you and Michael collaborated on a winner. Cheers.

Another nice one, sir. A very spring-like color that should look great all year long.

I'm glad the felt worked out to your liking. Your description seems to be very close to vintage felt and also similar to how Michael worked out my latest homburg with a very thin and moldable crown and a more firm and structured brim.

Lovely hat! Your pics recently have my desire to have a Gannon homburg at an all time high. Thanks for sharing.

This photo was sent to me yesterday. I suspect I may receive it by the end of the week.

A great hat. I tend toward those copper & brown tones myself. Looking forward to seeing it creased.

Not a whole lot different from the production photo but here's the finished product complete with a wind trolley. Ill probably have it on my head by Monday or Tuesday. Now I'm fighting the urge to go for The Highwayman. I really do need to simmer down quite a bit.

Thank you! I once heard a wise man say, "good God, I got another great Gannon!"

I'm thinking about giving this one a center dent with front pinches. We'll just have to see what she wants. She may want to be pinched, handled, and squeezed in a different way.

It's good to have a gaggle of great Gannon's. :)

Sahara and Copper Gannon with a gills bow and shallow front pinch.

Thank you! I went with Sahara in dress weight. The ribbon color is gravel.

My new Gannon. I chose a 5 1/2" crown and 2 3/4" brim. Sahara colored dress weight beaver and a contrasting mid ribbon in gravel. This felt is softer and more supple than my last Gannon, especially in the brim. The following photos show it with a center dent and front pinches. I have since changed the bash to a soft diamond, that is really speaking to me now. I chose a red liner and antique sweatband.

Michael made me a 50s style OR clone (see my profile pic) and I liked it so much, this time around I'm opting for a Black Cherry Borsalino Alessandria clone. I like the narrow hat band and I think the color and the edging around the brim will dress this one up a bit. Can't wait!

Everyone deserves a Black Cherry Gannon. Well, everyone deserves as many great Gannon's as they can get!
