Thought I'd share my quest for the perfect off-white lid and simultaneously show the subtle color differences between Michael's Silvermist and Silverbelly felt. Photos have been white balanced.

Silverbelly on the left, Silvermist on the right.

The primary difference is the weight of the felts. The Silverbelly is a traditional dress weight, while the Silvermist is insanely thin (a mild wind gust easily reshapes the brim) but makes for a wearable lid during early/late summer months. Ultimately, the Silverbelly will get more wear from me.
Both are extraordinarily cool. Miles would be envious.

Specs:
Open Crown: 5 3/4" (a generous 5 3/4")
Brim: 2 3/4"
7 1/4 52 Block (Stratoliner clone was requested)
Pure Beaver Granite w/ Dark Navy Blue thin ribbon.

Fits great. Went with a center dent on this one.
Really nice Jim! Liking the granite/blue combo. The unboxing pics are a nice touch. I usually don't have that kind of patience, or was that a recreation after you savaged the package?

That silvermist does say balmy springtime evening. I think it is a classy color.

I've been preoccupied lately, so I'm a bit late seeing this one...but that is one of the most striking hats I've seen on the FL for a while! I never would have thought of combining those felt and ribbon colors, but they really work. Center dent is icing on the cake.
Just try it !!! Combos are just a matter of trying and seeing what comes out !!! [emoji6]

Gorgeous! Great choice of ribbon color contrasting interestingly with the granite felt.

I struggled with the colors on this one. I had become enamored of the Granite felt after seeing Eric's and Moon's, and I think a few others. I had ordered some dark, dusty, violet ribbon from a seller on eBay, but when I got it in hand it just wasn't "right." Michael didn't have anything similar, so I looked at these blues. He presented a steel blue, light navy, and the dark navy I ultimately chose. Moon almost had me talked into the steel blue, but I went with navy.

Then I second-guessed myself until I saw the first shot of it. Then I fell in love...but I'm easy that way.

Beautiful, just beautiful

How dare you go against me???!!!

I'm glad you did .... it looks amazing

Michael advocated for the light blue. So I guess I'm just that way.

I really did agonize over the brim binding after I settled on the color. I kept getting this image of a hat witha bound edge that just didn't fit. However, when I saw the photo of it on his IG page, I knew I'd made the right choice.

Fruno, did Michael send you pics of those other blues alongside the felt body? If so, any chance you could post those? It would be most instructive!

The first two photos are of the pounced hat, prior to finishing. The others are the hat body prior to blocking and pouncing.

I know the feeling...what if it just dont click? What if this is to much contrast? What if? Whe I realize I am getting into the what if? I change all of thos what ifs? Fo mr one What the F@;!;&ck !!! And have the hat made !!

Funny thing I had a Strat Clone in Granite, pure Beaver, Steel Blue ribbon in line, but Michael told me he got some 2" ribbon so I changed that for a Naturak, then Winchester was out of Natural so I went with Whiskey, cheers, and medium Brown.

Your hat just costed me some $$$$ I am getting a spot for ny Strat Clone with Mr. Gannon.

All the best

Just got this one shipped to El Paso, I thought I needed to get a shade of brown from Michael, decided from a bunch of samples to go with Whiskey, I know I am influenced by the taste of it, with Medium Brown ribbon, first choice was Chocolate but Michael hasnt any thin ribbon to match the vintage Chocolate, so we tried some options and, I believe, we took a nice one.

Here it is, feel free to destroy my hat taste !!

Thank you for posting, Fruno! They all have their merits. I think I'm partial to the steel blue. But your choice looks so great!

I always like viewing a re-cap of the ribbon selection process. And I like how you trusted your gut. Very creative!
