Why doesn't he post or interact?
I'd like to see his input. Its the only reason I have not ordered one. Hands on is key, at leat in my profession.
he mentioned to me one time about a bartender telling as a vendor him not to post or something? ... he has poked in before

I told him that all the vendors post ... hopefully he pops in sometime

Hey all,

First post... Apologies if this should go somewhere else.

Wondering what everyone's experience with Gannon hat bands shrinking (or not) is like? The reason I ask is that I have ordered a Gannon hat and have had a little trouble determining the right size to order for myself. This is based on the fact I have had next to no experience with hats before. I own two Akubras but that's it. One "Tablelands" at 59cm - now a touch tight but still ok - and a "Jazz", which is a porkpie at size 60cm but a bit too big. I understand that Akubras do shrink a size and that their sizes vary quite a bit between styles. Is the same true for Gannons or do they hold their size a bit more? At this point I've ordered a 59.5cm hat.

When I measure my head it is exactly 59cm. I've ordered a 59.5cm in the event I am a long oval (I would have no idea if I am or not). Sorry if this is a rookie question. Thought some Gannon customers would be the people to ask.

Michael has been a pleasure to work with so far. Very helpful and honest which is great since I am a bit of a newbie.

All of your hats look great btw. Looking forward to getting one of my own!
When I ordered from Optimo, Tiffany asked me to send her a photo of the top of head so she could determine whether I was a regular or a long oval. I bet Michael could do the same thing.

Michael has posted here before. As I'm happy to see, he spends more time making his hats! :) (from the kid in line for one of his hats...)

It's easiest to just go online to Etsy and send him an email. While you're there take a look at his hats. That was enough for me. He's new but he makes great looking hats in a few equally smart styles.

With all due respect, I was as never told by any bartender not to post. Incidentally I became a vendor with out even knowing my status was changed. I understand a thread I did recently was deleted. Where I had questioned something. And I had my pricing info., gone because why.....?? I am allowed that or no? There was posirive stuff about me there from old heads, just gone.Thread gone.
I had a call 3 years ago from a west coast hatter, told me flat out a different west coast hatter really can't stand me. What did I ever do to anyone, nothing. I see a system gone askew. Where is the problem and what is the solution. Because this is getting a little annoying. Thanks. Good night.

With respect I want to say this: I had a phone call from a hatter 3 years ago who told me to watch what I post; and what I say, and the call also mentioned how I am not liked by one in perticular; and how that hatter is not to encourage me any more. I never had a bartender tell me not to post. Here is the deal. So it's best to keep quiet,

I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm brand new to custom hats, and I like hats from a number of hatters. Everyone has their strengths and some definitely have more experience than others and I have never been one to shy away from a custom hat because of the price differences. We're not just paying for a Winchester felt. We're paying for expertise, knowledge and artistry gleaned from hard earned experience.

I'm done for the year with custom hat orders, although there are other hatters I'd like to do business with in the future, and repeat business I'd like to do with the hatters from which I've already ordered.

I am just responding to the fact that a bartender told him not post as a vendor. Why would they say that? I never got any words like that from anyone. That's all.

I am not quoting him ... but he did tell me that he was told not to post as a vendor ... I quickly told him that was ridiculous and that we would all love to hear from him more

I have no idea why maybe @Gannon Hat Company will chime

I find it kind of odd that he never makes himself known to anyone here publicly, whether by text or photo, yet on the other hand, I think everyone here has seen all the other hatters at 1 point or another. It also seems to me like moon is his personal spokesperson......just my 2¢.

I have had several email/Etsy exchanges with Michael in the past. Prompt, friendly and informative responses. I would occasionally like to see more of the same here by him on this thread. Just sayin.

As a newbie to fine hats, I would welcome the expertise of the various custom hatters on this forum. Art is welcome, within his own thread, I guess. I guess I'm not understanding these issues people are expressing. It would be great to include Mike Gannon in conversations about his masterpieces, likewise with Mike Miller from NW Hats. Am I barking up the wrong hat tree here?

Hello. I can't hyjack Michaels thread, because it has been done to me by a person very involved here. And I won't take this any further. Perhaps I will PM you in the morning, after a nights rest, which is after a very trying day over hats. I work all day long trying to make it happen. My issue, you'll understand. I'll fill you in. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Tim

Oh hey...I think we are all on the same train here....we love hats...love hatters...and love each other...I would tend to think for those making hats maybe there is some indication of advertising and sponsorship of the website here that is being looked at? Just my thoughts on it...but no matter what, I understand how everyone feels and thinks about each other, and trust me, we all do have the same "heart" towards one another....and love HATS!

I think the very first thread in the "Merchants" section covers it all. I think it should answer how a vendor should be posting here at TFL.

First time I've read that. Makes sense. If you want to advertise, buy an ad, don't post in the thread your advertisement. But be a part of the community. I know Michael reads the thread, because after my first hat, he emailed me to discuss my "review." I'd like to see him come in and interact a bit, as well. He seems to be a good guy and we'd benefit from the discussion.

Assuming he has the time.

HEY! Can the word, "BINGO" come into play here after reading your post?!! Haha! YES indeed! I am very certain the Lounge would appreciate some of the people that are vendors/making a product, kick some money towards the lounge budget for advertising their products here. AND maybe more so with hatters that are churning out a volume of hats.

You note I am a vendor. You don't see much activity on my vendor's page....sadly. BUT if anyone running the show here asked me to fork over some money to the lounge, hey, how much and where can I send it, will be my answer.

I like everything about what Mr. Gannon is doing in the hat making department. I will jump back on his waiting list (hopefully) soon...it is just a matter of budget and timing....and so far my budget is aiming a double barrel shotgun at me saying, "Just reach for that purse, I dare ya"....haha!
