Allrightyy - I'm the proud owner of a new Gannon hat. [emoji3]

I really like it - fits perfectly out of the box and the quality is first class.

The open crown is 5 3/4 and the brim 2 3/4. I was tempted to have Michael make the crown 6 inches tall, but I thought it might look a little too high with the thin ribbon.

Now I have the hat, I see the proportions are just right for me.

I had an idea that I might crease this one with a cattleman's crease, but the hat had other ideas and was much happier with my usual center crease and deep pinches.

Hey all,

First post... Apologies if this should go somewhere else.

Wondering what everyone's experience with Gannon hat bands shrinking (or not) is like? The reason I ask is that I have ordered a Gannon hat and have had a little trouble determining the right size to order for myself. This is based on the fact I have had next to no experience with hats before. I own two Akubras but that's it. One "Tablelands" at 59cm - now a touch tight but still ok - and a "Jazz", which is a porkpie at size 60cm but a bit too big. I understand that Akubras do shrink a size and that their sizes vary quite a bit between styles. Is the same true for Gannons or do they hold their size a bit more? At this point I've ordered a 59.5cm hat.

When I measure my head it is exactly 59cm. I've ordered a 59.5cm in the event I am a long oval (I would have no idea if I am or not). Sorry if this is a rookie question. Thought some Gannon customers would be the people to ask.

Michael has been a pleasure to work with so far. Very helpful and honest which is great since I am a bit of a newbie.

All of your hats look great btw. Looking forward to getting one of my own!

Very legit and on point questions in the very right place. Those here will help you immensely.

One way to determine your head shape is to make a "low rent" conformateur. I used heavy duty pipe cleaners, needing 2, twist them tight to your head and gently pull them off so they don't deform. It will give you a decent idea of head shape. I did it after I had Mike at NW Hats use his conformateur and my 'low rent' version looked remarkably similar. It is of no use to anyone but me and I was a bit shocked at the weirdness of my head shape but it was a fun experiment.

I would make sure you can compare a hat that fits you now really well, and use a tape measurement on the inner length and width for your hatter to be able to zero in the size better for you. If you think you are long oval shape, add a touch to the length to be sure it is indeed, long enough for you.

Thanks for the help!
I decided to opt for my preferred worst-case scenario and went up half a size. Figured I'd rather risk having it a bit loose and require an insert than risk it being too tight and not end up wearing it.
I'll be sure to post a pic of the hat once it arrives. Decided on a Whiskey with a raw edge brim and a thin ribbon.
Carry on!

Nice choice. What size brim?

Going with whiskey. I gotta decide on the ribbon color though. I luuuuv the copper color and Michael sent me a picture of a whiskey hat with rust color ribbon and it looked great. I'm also thinking of dark brown. Any other suggestions for ribbon colors on whiskey?
