Hey Antony,

Thats what I wanted with this Black Cherry, outside the box... Wanted a bright green 3" ribbon with a pink and yellow wide bow and the binding with a wide animal print ribbon, wanted a Jaguar printed one.

But Michael thought it was a little bit to much !!

Rodolfo, What colors are those in the bow of the ribbon? Is that gray and navy? And is the ribbon Michael's dark wine at 1-3/4" ?

I can't get over how beautiful this hat is...
Neither can I Fed !!

It is Navy and grey...and the ribbon is Burgundy in 1 3/4, he has a ribbon that he calls red wine, I call it Merlot, will have a chance to check hiw different wine and burgundy are in a couple of weeks.

Michael is a very gifted man, I will say he is a true artist.

It seems that everyone — myself included — is posting Gannon hats of the "formal" variety, but the rain that's been sweeping across the country has me wondering how a Gannon holds up in a downpour. Anyone brave enough to battle mother nature in a custom lid?

Sir, my Gannon fedoras have started to replace my Akubra CD as my everyday weather fedora. The beaver felts, quality leather bands and excellent ribbons have faired well in snow and rain. Soaked (even fell in the lake off my head) and snow melted thoroughly thru after snow blowing the hats are "good to go" after a brushing, drying and on occasion steam (working on crease or side deformations). I love the hats as they fit better, shed water better and are IMO - better looking.

Obviously, you can not mistreat them without consequence, but they do wear tough.

Trying hard to be as tough as my hats, Eric -

Well, just got an email from Michael, my reddish Black Cherry is ready,

I was feeling as if I have betrayed myself by not going with a contrasting ribbon, ohhh man how wrong I was.

The hat is just gorgeous, I just had to ask to get a little contrast in the bow, and the hat ended up like this…

Cant wait to get it, seems so beautiful, a very special shade this Black Cherry is..

Judge for yourself, but every time I am more convinced that you can't beat what you get from Michael.

Tremendous! I can't imagine another ribbon working as well as the one you chose.

While there's absolutely no way I could get away with wearing something that bold, it's absolutely GORGEOUS @Chamuco.

'I'm excited to see what you've got cookin', Moon (did anyone just catch that Miles reference?!?! Anyone? Bueller?). My second commission with Michael will be a bold first for me too (and I believe a first for him). Should have images any day now. *Insert Jeopardy theme song*

Thanks @Short Balding Guy. My upcoming commission is Natural beaver, and should ship within the next few days. I have a feeling I will be able to substitute it for a helmet.

My first commission was a Silvermist beaver, however. I believe it was you and @Chamuco that started the Silvermist frenzy here, correct? Michael used the last of his old Silvermist batch on mine a few months back, and while I absolutely love it, I don't know that I'd trust it to bare the elements. It's borderline "brittle." Has your Silvermist survived a downpour?

Well, you see its not that hard easy steps

Put it on your head.

Go out on the street, keep the hat on your head.

Dont give a cr@p about other people, they actually dont exist.

Be happy and proud of your sense of fashion !!

CMMD; I have a silvermist Gannon and a silvermist VS. Both beaver felts are dynamite in shedding water/snow. The light colored felts, in my experience, can show "water spots." I see that the water beads, drys and leaves the felt a different texture than the surrounding felt. A shot of steam and a stiff brushing and all is pristine. I do try to wipe or shake off the rain when I have a safe spot to do so as I have also experienced minerals in the rain water coloring the hat. A shot of steam/brush and they have disappeared, but I do take the extra steps with the light felts. The hats leather bands do need drying and occasional conditioning as they (IMO) take the heavy load.

The ribbons do show wear after time, but after a couple of years I plan on sending the hat back to Mr.Gannon for professional TLC and perhaps ribbon replacement. My Gannon hat ribbons show no appreciable wear - yet.

This is just my experience. Perhaps others with more experience under their brim can chime in.

Agreed, we all have limits. Our attire is a costume of sorts. My costume changes for the situations I plan or encounter during the day. Commute, travel, meetings, play, competition, hard work, yard work, chores, gigs, social situations, etc. Hats/caps are a part of the costume, not the costume for me.

Granted I am a an older guy and feel freedom from peer pressure and social pressure to choose my costume as I wish.
