I took a moment after walking our dogs to gather a couple of the Gannon Wanderer's up. I thought it might prove interesting to put a silver belly, silver mist and the bone beaver felts in contrast to each other.

Thanks sir. Bone felt, IMO, should pair well with cream, warm greens, pastels, warm browns and all kinds of warmer colors. I like the silver belly for the way the tarnish felt combined with charcoal ribbon spans warm and color toned attire. The silver mist excels with cool tones, white or stands apart when wearing any primary colored attire. Certainly my opinion and I am sure it may change as I wear them well.

Like you, the small felt strips of Winchester felt only start me on the path of recognition of how to wear a particular felt. I use the felt comparisons that Rabbit posted years ago on the VS thread. Those pics have served me well. I am humbly walking in his big footsteps.

Eric, thank you. This comparison is so wonderful. Now I'm thinking about a bone or silvermist Whippet Clone from Mike Gannon. Did the original Whippets ever come in such light colors, I wonder? I'm filing away another of your great images.

Good morning sir. I have a luncheon that I heading out to shortly. I am planning to wear a Cubavara shirt to be comfy sitting on the pier sharing a social lunch. I grabbed a couple of pics with a tan/cream and a black/white Cibavera to illustrate the felt color pairings. Conveinent for me, and while I am confident that my choices are not normal, I hope it assists.

Absolutely love light colours. Non idea how anyone can keep them clean though. In have a Light Sage that needs to go for a cleaning. Just by handling it over the last 6 years there is some slight discolouration in the crown and brim. Love the look of them. Seriously jealous of anyone who can keep them looking good over the years.

Thanks Jeff. Between the bone felt and the trimmings it is dynamite. I believe that the "nearly matched" ribbon work ads to the hats ability to morf into the "striking" zone. A subtleness that makes the eye notice the hue and texture differences. Some of my other combos are not this subtle - they demand you notice the hue difference. Now - look.

I have been thinking of bone descriptor words and the one that often comes to mind is golden. I like that way of describing bone felt color in contrast to the other lighter Winchester felts. Other bone felt owners should chime in, but that is my thoughts today.

Jeff, you and others may have a better way with words to describe the emotives of the gestalt of a hat. Go ahead and apply them. As I consider future hats I am learning from the features that make this hat striking.

My first falcon park hat was bone rabbit felt. Now I'm jonesing for one in beaver. Golden is a good descriptor! I like to think of mine as creamy. My FP has a burgundy/merlot ribbon, so often makes the felt look very bright white.

I like the idea of the merlot color trimmings. Dreaming, but would it not be cool to be able to switch out ribbon combos on the same body? Not exactly possible, but it would be very cool.

The beaver felted hats have easily replaced the utility of my durable rabbit hats (like my Akubra CD). Whatever the uptick in price it was been worth the price. I know that another poster relayed how hard it might be to care for the lighter felts, but that has not been my experience. Brushing, steaming, occasional liner replacement and an occasional naphtha spot clean has been the most effort I have taken. Having a blade pate means the liners show the most wear/soil. Granted the ribbons on some of my original customs have started to show wear (other would use the word patina), but I do not find that unexpected. At some point I see sending the hats off to have new sweats and ribbons as a refurbishment.

On the other hand, we have so many hats that the wear is much less than my Grandfather who never owned more than 2 hats and wore them all day everyday.

I have to review all the videos on the Crease threads. The detail in the bow is an "orange and black" homage to my alma mater (actually bronze, but it reads), tall open crown, 2 5/8" brim.
