Losing the jacket.

Jacket only comes off at home, or at my desk in the office. Such is my rule for two piece or three piece suits, or jacket/trouser combinations.

(although the little lady may convince me to stroll with the jacket off in the heat of the summer from time to time)

It's interesting that Americans are much more reticent in "losing the jacket" than are those of us on this side of the Atlantic, especially bearing in mind that your summers are usually so much hotter than ours. I don't hesitate to remove my jacket at 25C (at which I wilt), perhaps even at 20C. But by profession I was a teacher (which is NOT a sedentary occupation) and I never discarded the tie.

I think that you have come to an inaccurate conclusion.
That is very possible; but I have drawn it from (a) what I have observed in the UK and (b) what I have read on this and similar fora.

... what I have read on this and similar fora.
Definitely not a very representative sampling.
I had a colleague who kept a sportcoat and necktie in his office "just in case he needed to wear one".

See, this is one of those occasions when I get to feel smug. ;)

Smug? Not really. I prefer the word "liberated"

Every 4 weeks or so, I go to my barber and get a "number 1" all over. I walk away thinking "Thank God, I don't have to worry about my hair for another month!"

I always hated my hair, I could never get a good cut, it grew every which way ...
