I even got of the phone with Barsolino's global shop. They were not even able to identify it because all the modern editions have a new form of idenfication number located at specific spots in the hat. This one did not, which also then led them to have me submit it to the back office so they could research it further.

So, If you can come up with some helpful knowledge, then I would be greatful. Otherwise, saying just a negative one to two sentence reply really isn't relevant.

I appreciate you guys responding so quick.
I just submitted everything to Borsalino about 30 minutes ago.
I have spent the last 1 month contacting every hat specialist I could locate or get a hold of.
The issues they ran into were:
1) There were no comparisons across any database.
2) Theoretically speaking; All the evidence points to this hat being one of the first generation hats made within the first
Year Barsolina and his brother opened up their first shop in Alessandria.
3) They have never seen a Vintage Hat in such prestine Mint condition, with the tags/box/ plastic wrap / and perfectly cared
for and maintained condition

The only comparison they could find was that what would be believed to be the brand new edition most closely equivalent and it was priced at $1095.
First year, as in 1857? I doubt your hat is older than 1980s. The liner is completely wrong for an antique, let alone a vintage hat from the 1950s.

That what most appraisers first impression was as well.
But as they researched the additional factors, they were perplexed because even if it is from the 1980's.... Its still Antica Casa 1857 limited, but it is also and Alessandria which they did not have enough information to makes sense of it. So Looking into SOAVE, and nettuno is where most gave up. And yes, I am waiting to hear back from the Primo Hatters organization as well.

Posting a customer service phone number is not an appraisal. Relevant? Your information is garbage. Read the hundreds of pages of information here about Borsalino hats, and then get back to me about relevant.

You see that little 55 sticker on your sweatband? That's indicative of a modern hat, too. Do you have pictures of tags from underneath the sweatband?

So you spoke to a pimple-faced customer service rep at Borsalino, who probably has never seen a vintage hat in their life, and that's your source???

I was just posting that to reference that I have actually being doing my due diligence, and documenting each step of the way. And 55 sticker is not on the modern sizes. The modern sizes start at 57

If you spend even ten minutes in the Borsalino Brotherhood thread, you can see for yourself.

Nothing about your hat indicates that it is significantly old. Among such indications: black leather sweatband (more common in Borso than US brands, but black sweats almost always show up post war); paper sticker size tag on sweat (older hats had embroidered cloth size tags or paper tags attached to the sweatband); made for export to the U.S. (a "first generation" Borsalino would almost certainly not have been made for export).

You and your appraiser seem to be mistaking Borsalino's marketing gimmicks as some sort of dating tool.

Antica Casa is on every Borsalino sweatband, even those for sale in retail shops TODAY.

Soave means sweet. Nettuno is simply a model name, and means Neptune. My 1950s Borsalino Savoy is arguably worth $300. Your Nettuno? Not so much.

I am hoping the Barsolino expert's will be able to provide me with the exact answers....I am waiting for their response after submitting everything to their research department via email.

I have just been contacting every level hat expert as each one I have been through sends me to someone they feel is more knowledgeable.

For all I know, My grandfather may have acquired this from a high end celebrity that had Barsolina recreate an original.

All I know is that its mint condition which would blow my mind in regards to the aging well.
Still The Condition of the hat, the level of the hat, and the Antica Casa 1857, and The Alessandria edition still puts the hat in the two highest valued, most limited edition classes that Barsolina has....

Thank you BamaBoots; At least you get the point and state it in a way Im feeling anyway. If someone has legitimate information, thats what I spending alot of time looking into. I don't really have the desire to get into hat arguments that lead no where.

No, it doesn't. That's the Borsalino logo that goes in every hat.

Well I guess I could spend a moment with pointless responses:
@jlee562 24kt Gold is the purity standard that the Gold Spot price is calculated.

Im sorry you feel that I'm not giving you legit information. But as I said, if you familiarize yourself with the Borsalino Brotherhood thread, you would see why your assumptions are misguided.

Here's one of my Italian market Borsos.

you can see the paper tag with punti sizing, the oil skin (NOT plastic!) liner, you can see the "qualita extra extra superiore" which was the quality designation.

Alessandria is the city where the original factory was located (and a hat model name), it has no correlation to felt quality.

Thank you, that was much more helpful that the "LOL", and the "NO, it isn't" reponse.
Yes, I see the tag design in yours. Mine is not plastic though. However, I see how that may look that way over the pictures.

No, your size tag is a sticker, which is not found in old hats.

the most likely explanation for your hat is that it is a retailer exclusive. All modern hat companies have done this for various retail outlets and these variants don't show up in published catalogs. Both JJ Hat Center and Bencraft hats in Brooklyn have done so with Borsalino. By far the majority of black Borsalino hats in general, and especially those sold in NYC, and especially those in Crown Heights, are sold to the Jewish community.

@jlee562 You also have to consider the factors that our two products are completely different forms of hat wear, and the vastly different conditions they are in.
So, I see how a $300-$400 valuation for yours is very credible.
And the hat model and manufacturing designation due in fact correllate to a higher price premium.
I do not see an Antica Casa 1857 designation on your head wear, or any 14kt gold enlays either.
The head wear that I have is completely different style, Alessandra, Antica Casa 1857 Fondata NEL, with 14KT gold (inlcuding the hat size label), The hats composition is not just Fur Felt, It also has high quality, hand-stitched leather rim, and is Mint condition with untouched tags, and has been kept in climate controlled conditions, and unworn....

I competely agree that I have no idea what the true age off the hat is, but all other variables including the extremely high popularity and demand for this style value it at the upper echelon, regardless of the year of manufacturing.
