Linen Summer Jacket?

Anyone knows of TFL grade brand that makes quality & nice looking linen jackets? Something Japanese?

I just can't find anything decent online, just a whole bunch of horrid shirts or those suits and most aren't even pure linen but a bland of this and that. I desperately need something asap because disgusting summer is already at the door.

Lightweight linen trucker-ish kinda deal would be ideal. Of course. But I'm really down with anything fun. Just as long as it's not a suit.

@Boyo , been all over the site, they've got two shirts and two pairs of short trousers. Nobody's doing anything in linen, it would appear... There are like just a couple of shirts at best on any of the pricey online stores.

I hear what you say about a suit, but whatever garment you go for, if it's pure linen it will look like you've slept in it within an hour. A couple of years ago I went to a wedding with a Hawaiian theme, I had hankered after a linen suit for a long time. The tailor urged me to have a linen cotton mix, he warned me of the crumple risk and I didn't listen, I hardly ever wear the suit. You've made it clear that it's not a suit that you're after but just look at the pants and sleeves of my suit. That was immaculate an hour earlier, a forty minute drive and mixing with guests and look at it now. Take a tip from my tailor, mix the linen.

Yes....price somewhat eye-watering and way beyond my reach also.A well-worn Carhartt work jacket has just scratched an itch for £21.As far as I know linen ages well though so you can get get a lot of wear out of a well made garment.

Agreed completely. And the reason why I dismissed a linen suit straight away is precisely because of that. Suits look just plain bad when crumpled. So my reasoning is, a more casual style at least won't be visually affected by crumpling.

Thing is, summers are really tough for me. I'm one of those people who can't stand hot weather. It's killing me so I desperately need to do something about my summer wardrobe (which mostly consists of T-shirts) and that something is linen. I've discovered it only recently but it really is a miracle of a fabric. At least for me. Just that it doesn't come in as many variations as cotton hence this thread. Suit jackets seem to be most common which is okay but you really have to wear them over something and that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Getting rid of cotton altogether during the summer. That's my mission.

I read linen is 3x tougher than any cotton. Don't know if it's true but that sounds like a good deal any way you look at it.

I was looking for a lighter weight jacket and I have a couple of Levis jackets in this style I like. In the end I went with a slighlty less expensive jacket in same style from the Italian brand Scarti-Lab which I really like and has held up well.

Darcy clothing might; Old Town definitely do, SJC I think do. Personally, though, I'd stick to cotton if you want to wear them a lot - I find linen wears at the crotch far faster than any other trouser material.

This is not the cheapest option, but Viapiana Custom Denim has linen fabrics and can make a jacket with one of them.

I have several items from him and the quality is incredible. He is also pretty much full bespoke so you get to choose everything including exact measurements for around $350. Certain linens may be more money, though.

Monitor I can't even bear to think of a jacket of any kind during summer where I live. The temperature varies between 97-106 degrees from December through to the end of February. So I'm of no help to you here other than to express my empathy and say I feel your pain!

@Monitor, I think GHT is right that a linen/cotton mix will resist the chronic creasing that is endemic to 100% linen clothing, but you may not find it to be much of an improvement compared to the crease resistance of other fabrics.

I wear linen Hawaiian style shirts here in summer because rayon isn't so good in the humidity, and I have two linen suits that I not only wear in the car, but also pack into suitcases and take to fancy hotels around Asia.

The thing is this; 100% linen, when washed about a million times (cool, wool cycle) will become much easier to wear.
Firstly, it will shrink a little (so size up), but after a lot of gentle washing (and I mean a lot), the fibers of the fabric will starts to breakdown a little and lose their 'crispness', making them fold without creasing so deeply and easily.

It's very much like the fibers of paper; think of the way a brand new bill holds that first sharp crease, but after a bank note has been in circulartion, it's got folded and creases so many times that the paper has become kind of softer, and doesn't hold creases so well.

100% linen is exactly like that.

I really enjoy wearing a cool linen suit when tourists are melting in just t-shirts and shorts. Our forefathers travelled Asia with much stricter dress codes and no aircon!
