Oh, that was you who bought that one, right?

I seem to remember a hat vaguely fitting that description...

I found a 1948 ad last evening that features the color "Sky Grey." I guess this could be another candidate for the official Stetson designation for the light blue. It's hard to get an accurate read from these ads, however, since the colors are faded.

Cheers,
JtL

I have a Royal Deluxe that is virtually the same model, & color in a 7 3/8, but my perception is of more of a dove grey than blue. But I must say, your crown treatment is absolutely exquisite. I have said it before & will say it some more, Jimmy your bashes are some of the best I have ever seen. Are you a sculptor? Maybe ya' should be.

I know what you mean. I have a Mallory that's close to that color. I had thought of it as gray -- but a blue gray, as opposed to a brown gray. The distinction might be wasted on a casual observer, but it can make a big difference in how well the hat pairs with other attire. And it's pretty darned obvious when blue-gray and brown-gray hats are viewed side by side, as Jimmy was good enough to demonstrate.

Heck, no! I was the kid in third grade art class who couldn't even make a decent ashtray...

Rick -- thanks so much for the positive feedback, it is very much appreciated! Is it possible for you to post photos of the dove gray OR? Would love to check it out.

Likewise, Bud-n-Texas -- thanks!!! I took a few photos over the weekend to document the hat and wasn't planning on posting them -- but, here goes...

A very fine example of forming and shaping and a magnificient example of a Stetson OR. Glad to have re surfaced this fine thread. Some anomolies are just part of the vintage chase.

I could look at that hat all day and not grow tired of it! I missed this thread first time around as well - this is a big place, after all. This OR is what hat dreams are made of. And as has been pointed out, Jimmy's bashes are a sight to behold!

Benny -- thanks for the kind words. The next "VB" is on me! :cheers1:

Oh, Alan....lol I've got a lid heading back my way from a cleaning at Optimo -- this time around I'll try to take some photos as I do the crease to help describe the process...;)

Excellent! That one may need to be stickied. I'm looking forward to it.
