Yes I am here. Snow shoeing, shovelling snow and chopping wood takes up most of my time right now but when the ice gets thick enough to go fishing... I'm gone.

Good day Mr Jamespowers
I personally don't make many popsicles in the snow but it is the best way to keep your beer cold when camping. Besides heading south would mean becoming an American, and I am quite happy with our friendly dictatorship of Canada thank you very much. ;) Even with the cold.

Yank speaking. 2 of my favorite places are Vancouver and Montreal – but for very modern reasons. I don't think I'd have liked either of them back in the day – read too many stories about how straitlaced and dull they were before the "New Canada" came along.

Montreal in particular has benefited immeasurably from the Gallic culture no longer being relegated to second class. And from what I hear about Vancouver before the 60s, it was a grim and stifling place despite its natural beauty.

you may be right Fletch, but i will have to brush up on my history. I find it hard to imagine that there was ever a time in history that Montreal would have been considered dull

Maybe I'm the one who should brush up - all I know is that the Québécois culture used to be considered very low-class and "nice" Anglo folks didn't partake of it. Seems that would be a great, great loss of the cosmopolitanism we love about modern Montreal. (I also may be confusing myself with old stories of Toronto, where they really did used to roll up the streets at sundown.)

Those rumors were probably started by the Qu?©b?©cois to keep the Anglos away. Meanwhile zer partayz raged on into zee naht. :D

I live in Michigan. Our recently re-elected governor is from Canada. My ancestors originated from there. Wouldn't Michigan make a great new province for our neighbors to the north? lol lol lol

Oh, Canada!

I've been to Canada many times - it's beautiful. In fact, it's probably the prettiest suburb America has. ;) lol :p

Honestly though, I've never had a trip to Canada that wasn't one of my favorites. Gorgeous in summer, and the pristine winters while cold are stunning.

Nah, the western provinces just need to become part of the US!

Let's see...BC, Yukon and Northwest Territories, Alberta, and maybe Saskatchewan can all become the 51st through 55th states.

I like it. I can continue to visit and not need a passport, and "Canadian content" laws won't apply to TV and film production in Vancouver meaning I might be able to get a job up there without emigrating. You guys up north won't have to deal with money called "loonies" anymore and get a better exchange rate. We will let you keep on talking funny, however.

The only downside I can think of is we'll get "Rowdy" Roddie Piper as a U.S. citizen -- if he hasn't already become one on his own...like half of the rest of Hollywood. lol lol lol

Cheers!

Yep. I even like Montreal in midwinter – reminds you what all that cozy is for. Taking the train up to Quebec city in December thru flawless white snow-covered fields and towns was one of the best rail trips I ever took. (The way up that is - the way down, we were seated next to a bunch of day-tripping secretaries who treated us to 3 1/2 hours of raucous ear-splitting bavardage.)

montreal is fabulous, indeed.i have some wonderful memories of the 4 months i lived there before i admitted that i was madly in love and had to return to Nova Scotia to my true love;)

One of my favourite days includes the memory of falling asleep for 4 hours on the hills of Mount Royal:D

How about just the U.P. and we can split the fares to cross the Mighty Mac? (We keep Mackinaw Island, or at least the Grand Hotel).
Deal or no deal?
