Leather Trucker Levi's / Lee / Type-whatever jackets!

Here's mine :

First is a brown Levi's jacket. It's not bad. Nice, lighter weight, but still rugged.

The second one is a monster. No name or label, but the leather is thick as hell. No idea who made it, but I looked and looked at similar looking jackets on ebay and concluded that it might be a German maker. It's still not broken in, needs some rough treatment to get it in line. Leather is so stiff it's hard to button. Picked it up for around $100, and it was a steal.

Next are two thrift pickups, a Levi's sherpa lined. I had one like it when I was four, and had to get this one when I saw it for sale on a bulliten board at work for I think $20 about 8 years ago.

Last is an Old Navy, basically a clone of the Levi's Type III. It's a good jacket for $5-10. I really like it. I hear their quality isn't what it used to be, but this one has held up pretty well over the years.

Frank from Shameless has that exact jacket. It’s his favorite.

They're an interesting concept, these. I'm only now, after a gap of pushing 25 years, one slight dalliance with a Levis "Type 1 Series" jacket aside (not the Type I as we know it, the Type 1 series they did in the early 00s, with the very pointy pockets and very pronounced yellow stitching - not long before they then did the twisted engineer stuff. Quite nice, but a bit too long in the body to look quite right....) considering a denim jacket again. Double denim is something I have long avoided, but now the likes of an SJC Yardboss jacket with the Kevlar lining or a Helstons Cannonball in RAW denim appeals for a Summer bike jacket. I could also be tempted into one of these:

The Helston Cannonball in black leather. I think it could look pretty cool in brown too. Clearly owes something of a design debt to the Levis type 3 and similar. I've not yet handled one, so I don't quite know how thesis and button work when they're beside each other rather than the buttons being for a flap that goes over the zip....

The leather trucker type is one way of avoiding 'double denim' if you nonetheless like the style of the jacket. Interesting that the vast majority of them (at least those that are "original" rather than repop) seem to be Type 3. I wonder does that put a timeframe on when they first appeared? I always think of Elvis in the 68 Special with them, though obviously his had that oversized collar. (Trivia: Elvis was put in head to toe leather for the 68 Special because the stylist misremembered what he wore in Jailhouse rock and thought young Elvis had worn leather then too.)

And here's the tag. Eghaus-Pak Industries. Never heard of them, don't know anything about them. I really would like to know what the leather is. "100% genuine leather" doesn't tell much. I assume cow, but it could be buffalo, or something else for all I know, but I assume if it were exotic the animal would be named on the tag. The polyester lining is nothing special, and there is one inside pocket, which is handy. I really like trucker jackets that have handwarmer AND inside pockets, not the ones that only have chest pockets.

My assumption is that this is a well made, heavy, yet not expensive or high end jacket. I am curious about what it would have cost new, and when and where it was made. The label being in German helps establish it as a German jacket, but with the name Eghaus-Pak, I wonder if it might be manufactured in Pakistan.

Pakistan seems a very reasonable guess. Here in the UK, most of the generic leather wholesalers / retailers I see (specialists who do nothing else) tend to be run by people who are either Pakistani or of Pakistani origin. Seems to be a strongly established business link. I'd be surprised if that's not replicated across much of Europe to some extent, in particular with those who want to trade across the EU. The UK is an obvious base for many of them for historical connection and language issues.

Lol, but yeah, they actually do. There was a scan from some Japanese magazine or something, about how to artificially make those creases. It involves a bucket of water.

I have always been attracted to the Leather trucker jacket. I thought it was a select disorder!

Great collection. Wasn't that Vanson from ebay? Schott makes an interesting looking trucker. I've seen a few of those, but not lately. I try not to look for them. I just gave my daughter a reversible in a ladies size. too cool to pass up. I need to stay away from them. I haven't even bought one that fits.

I'm sorry my Lost Worlds won't work for you. We gave it a shot. I may hang it on the wall. It fits better when I shrink!

@Monitor, somewhere around the house I've got (had?) a RMC Japan mook with a two page spread on how to soak your jacket in a bucket of water, and how to precisely bundle the thing up, and then tie it very tightly into an even smaller bundle with thick rope (kind of shibari for jackets!) and then leave the whole thing to dry out somewhere so that when you unwrap it it has all these 'authentic' creases.
For people who don't have enough time to break-in their jacket I guess.
They compared the results to a jacket that they claimed was real vintage, and you can't tell the two apart in terms of creases.

@Big J Aaah, riiight! That's how they get the creases to be so deep! I was wondering about that because, I mean, I have some jackets that I've worn a really long time and I never got the sleeve creases to be this pronounced. Lol, crazy people... But it's a good idea! If you find this, could you please share? I'm actually willing to give it a try.

So I bid on this half heartedly as I wasn't convinced of it fitting me.

Pit to pit is 26 inches
Shoulder seam to seam is 23 inches
Back - collar seam to bottom of waist band 26 inches
Sleeve- shoulder seam to wrist end 24 inches

The only way it would have ever been long enough for my 26"-27" sleeve was if the shoulders hung over. I probably would have been swimming in this with a 26" p to P.

Doesn't this seem petty high priced?

FYI LW has several on their sale page, all too small for me though.

I am looking for one with riveted buttons, not snaps. I think LL calls this their "Western Jacket No. 988" on their main web page
£705.00.
Wonder if they would do it with buttons?

It's not that bad. I see them go for $500 but it all depends. That seems like a really large jacket...

Here's a vintage brown Suede Trucker by Schott that I picked up a while ago. Possibly from the 70's or 60's? I was looking for something similar in texture, color & cut to the jacket worn by John Lennon on Rubber Soul...or at least inspired by it. The brown suede color is actually darker in real life. And suitably thick and heavy.

That's an extremely cool jacket! Great. Now I want this one too. I'm not a big fan of suede when it's new but it nonetheless ages perfectly. Those darkened lines at the creases are just too cool, like old denim. Awesome jacket!
