Leather jacket squeaking.

Hi all,

My badalassi cowhide Westfall, even after few months wear, is still squeaking. Is it possible to stop the leather jacket from squeaking? I've heard the sound will be gone if you give the jacket enough wear, or apply leather conditioner like Pecards to it. But today, someone today me that the sound will never ever go away...

So, the question is, is it possible to stop it? And if so, whats the best way to stop it.

3-4 coats of Bick-4 should do it. It took more on a new heavy horse hide jacket.

I swear by a product called Renapur. I put a good coating on almost every leather item I own. I know that none of them really need it but it conditions beautifully, stops squeaks and adds a fair bit of water resistance.
I have used other products in the past that, once they soak in, have made the squeaking worse. Obenauf's being the worst for this.

My BK Werber in Liberty is fine, no noise or whatsoever, just my badalassi cow hide. What kind of leather is your Dubow? And, sounds like you did nothing to it right?

wow, Renapur is quite expensive products I'd say. Which product do you use exactly? Seems like they have many different leather conditioner under this brand

I think it is leather specific, and there is no way to tell how long it will take!

My schott 641, made of steer hide, squeaked a lot when new, and still squeaks a lot now, it has been worn a lot and is close to 3 years old.
There is nothing more ridiculous than sitting in a leather seat wearing that jacket, it is just mental.

My Lewis Leathers Dominator is cowhide, it squeaked when new, but is now completely silent.
It was not worn as much as the Scott, but went silent very fast.

My brand new Alexander Leathers Cafe Racer is FQHH, it has never squeaked! Silent from day one.


IO remember reading something saying that squeaking was actually the thread moving in the holes, and that a good way to stop the squeaking was to apply either a lube, or talcum powder to the stitching!
Personally i find it a very bad idea, and just left it. It's like everything, you get used to it and stop noticing...

I think you could dampen the sheen down, Just do an Indiana Jones under the BMW Truck for a couple blocks and that should take the squeek right down you betcha.

My concerned about the talcum power is, does it gonna damage the leather? I mean, it is power, even it is talcum..

Z it's pretty hard to damage leather - that's why we like it. It's tough. Some jackets will squeak for years - I had a roo hide jacket that squeaked for over 10 years. I suspect it has more to do with the tanning and surface dye. I tend to wash my jacket in a front load washer with a little washing detergent. That helps to break them in, shape them and does cut down on the noise. They never shrink and they always look better.

OK, I must say, the talcum power is magic...I tried it on one sleeve (talcum power bought from Tesco)...and the noise is gone...but the real question now is, can I use the talcum power that normally used after shower? That thing will absorb water etc, does it gonna dry the leather??

It is a tad expensive but you only need a tiny bit and a tub lasts for years.

Oh and take no notice of the 'not for use on aniline leather' as I've used it on my Good Wear's and it hasn't hurt them one bit. It will darken the leather slightly at first but goes back to normal overnight.

Update， I tried the Saphir cream, instead of apply to whole jacket, I only applied it to the stitches, so far, it works great, no sound at all. I will see how it goes overnight.

I got E-series G-1's from the 70's that are, therefore, as old as I am, and since they are steer, they still squeak like hell.
