Just saw it, and loved it. Had no trouble picturing the realities of Prohibition era as portrayed in the film. Any Lounger would appreciate the incredible selection of hats on display, a virtual smorgasboard of chapeaus. The cars and the clothing are magnificent as well.

Forrest stole my look! :eeek: I have an old vintage Lee fedora I bought off ebay about 4 or 5 years ago of almost the same color that I often wear with a gray sweater in the fall. My hat doesn't have the bound brim and the sweater is a little different, but I wonder if now people are gonna think I wear them because of the movie.

I finally got to see it on Wednesday. I liked it. I think they did a great job capturing Appalachia in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s. I loved the book and the movie did condense some things for the sake of continuity but they did a great job. Now waiting for Boardwalk Empire Season 3 to begin.

You can send your hat in to most hat shops and they can bind the brim for you with a matching color to the ribbon, or if you like, an offset color!

I saw the film last night... it was good. I wanted Gary Oldman's character to be in it more, but that's just the way this movie played out. Guy Pearce continues to operate on another level of the rest of any cast in any film (the man can do no wrong. No, not even in Prometheus.)

The cars are what really set me off. Anyone know what that red roadster was Shia was driving with Mia towards the end? Yowza!

I saw the movie over the weekend. There was a lot I liked and a lot I didn't like. I thought they really did a great job on the clothes, vehicles, atmosphere, etc. Somebody really did their homework.

I enjoyed the hats, the cars, however Forrest the quite giant, lost every fight.
When was the last movie that Clint or Chuck lost a fight?
The shootout at the ending was bad.
Anyway great cars, great hats. Depicting an era when Men were men and sheep were scared.
I would like to find Forrests brass knuckles or whatever they were made of.
Best regards

Hi Atomiceratom

Any great lines from Lawless that stand out? Reckon NOT!
I am going to see Mob Squad when it premiers. However currently just watching Boardwalk Empire.
Lawless fell short of expectations. My 02 cents.

several of the comments on this movie have said 'very violent' without elaborating as to whether that was a good thing or not. personally, i'm not interested in seeing surly macho men graphically shoot and stab each other (much of Boardwalk Empire was too violent for me so you can see i'm a bit of a wuss). does anyone else find graphic violence in films puts them off seeing a film or is it just me ?

HBK: Violence in films/tv? I think it depends on the circumstances. My personal reaction changed after my children were born. I found myself unable to watch horror films with any graphic/nasty violence. That has worn off to a degree but i remain more sensitive than i used to be. And I still cannot tolerate torture films in any way at all.
I think my reaction to violence depends on how it is used. In crime films it often seems to be in a sort of twisted celebration of events. In war films violence is (in my opinion) absolutely essential to show the horror of war and show the hideous reality of what combat does to people (both physically and, in particular, mentally).

Two Types, the filmmakers argument is usually along the lines of 'well these are violent characters so it HAS to be violent'. one can't argue with logic like that, but it's the explicitness of violence and the way many modern filmmakers linger over the images of it that disturbs me.

Forrest was my favorite in the movie, and I'm not quite sure why they made his situation pan out the way it did. I hated how he ended up at the very end of the film. Don't wanna ruin it for those who haven't seen it.

I can't recall ever seeing Clint go down, except in Gran Torino.

The shootout was a dragged out mess, in my opinion. Again, didn't quite understand what the film-makers were going for.

There wasn't really any big, memorable lines, you're right.
Haven't heard anything about this Mob Squad, you mentioned, though.

CCJ actually means The Gangster Squad coming out early next year. It was supposed to come out last month but due to the movie theater shooting in Aurora, they had to take a scene out and do re-shoots so it was pushed back. It's about the LAPD's gangster squad who went to war in the 40's against organized crime in L.A. I'm definitely looking forward to it.
