This was the Langlitz I snagged off the bay / torn liner / funky measurements etc. Just finished it’s bath and re-conditioning. Planning on sending into Langlitz to chop 1” off the sleeves and fix lining. Really only one sleeve needs a new lining so it won’t be a full reline job.
Question for the lounge. While it’s in the shop, I’m contemplating having 2 upper outside chest pockets added. Either horizontal or angled in cat eye style. Yay or nay???

I agree add some pockets. I have an itch for another langlitz. Wish they did a center zip columbia. Great pick up man looks real good!

They have built center zip Columbia’s in the past and they might make one for you if you are lucky. I tried to order one a couple years back but they rejected my order based on the fact that I have had a couple past issues with their jackets and they were afraid I might request another remake.

The hide on this one is like Lost Worlds thick and only from 2013. So as long as the alterations aren't crazy expensive it still works out given the bargain bay price I snagged it for. Lining repair is only one sleeve, left arm where someones heavy duty watch ripped through the cuff lining. The rest of the lining and pockets are in great condition.

don't make it too high or too far from the main center zip though
since they break open the lining anyway , why not adding their pinstripe back pipings for better aerodynamics

Did you get a quote? My guess would be around $300 for the repairs and pocket additions. If they will even add pockets. With those guys at Langlitz I think a lot depends upon what mood they are in on that day.

Cat eye chest pockets for sure. That’s not a difficult job to do. It’s a blank canvas right now. Cool jacket. Well worth the mods imho. Will vastly improve the look and functionality. Hide does look good!

That quote was a month ago.

Looks very nice for what you paid for it. I asked the seller some questions and ultimately decided against bidding on this jacket. I am glad to hear it's heavy hide, and it's really odd that it's only from 2013 and has liner issues. Past Langlitz Columbias I have owned were from the 1980's and the liner, while very flexible and comfortable, felt like they could withstand a bulldozer driving over thier lining and not get scratched.

Chest pockets, I'd be 50/50 on those, but I guess the 2 pocket CR is perhaps an oddity since the "2-pockets" are handwarmer pockets on this model, whereas more traditional CR's it's up in the chest area. Go for the slanted if you like those!

Sleeves - When it dries out enough, take some fit photos - I always prefer sleeves a bit longer than shorter myself. Unless they are really out into your hands while wearing the jacket, i'd consider leaving them as it. Will you be riding in this jacket?

In the final analysis for me, I am just not a big fan of the back design on this style now. This was actually the first time I had seen good photos of the back, you cannot tell much out of the Langlitz catalog or even thier online photos. I have been considering a Langlitz Cresent for quite a while, but something about the lower back/kidney panel area just does not work for me. Perhaps it would be different if I tried one on in person. But in any case - nice catch there!

Also, if you want an alternative, I have a jacket in for a re-lining here - Dena has helped out a lot of people on this forum, and only 1.5 hours away from me. She can do all the work you are discussing.

I think the price was $225 for re-line or by the hour depending on if they can repair the arm lining and pockets were $175 each. I was going to add 2 jean jacket style patch chest pockets and a dress collar plus liner fix and shipping which brought the jacket total higher than I was willing to pay for a used jacket.

Makes sense to me. At that point you are better off springing for a new one and getting a jacket made to your measurements.

Agreed! Luckily it's really only the inner sleeve cuff area that became ripped. There's enough material where I could actually fix this myself with some rubber cement and call it day. But given the crazy long sleeves, I need a solid 1" maybe 1.25" chopped off, I'll have this patched up properly. And thats keeping them long enough for riding! Original owner must have jacked up his measurements because the body length is perfect for a 5'9/5'10 person.

Figured I’d snap a couple “before alteration” pics and then update when it returns from Langlitz with chest pockets and shorter sleeves. 1” off the cuffs will be right above the existing cuff dual stitch lines. I’m afraid going any shorter will make the zip section look oddly short.

I think I would go 2 off sleeves and bring up/shorten the body to just under the zipper.

Send those photos to Langlitz and ask their advice, and how they do the alterations. I would say you need to go shorter than 1" on the sleeves. It may be they cut open the seam at the cuff zipper and move the whole zipper up as much as it needs to go, in which case you can easily get the exact right length.
