Ladies prefer...

I thought I'd chime in with the Gentlemen prefer thread as it seems an interesting one to discuss. What is it you ladies prefer in a man? Is it his hat wearing skills or perhaps his ability to dance? What do you look for?

I personally am always attracted to a man with facial hair. I have never dated a man with a bald face. Vintage style helps massively.

Moreover his moral values and ambitions about personal life and behaviour have to be as similar as possible to mine. I've had relationships with men who want and behave the opposite to me and it made for a miserable time.

Visually it's good hair, stylish (preferably vintage) clothes and a nice smile. I have no preferences for height, hair colour or anything else really.
Personality-wise I want somebody who laughs at my jokes and makes me laugh too, intelligence and critical thinking, someone with similar politics/values to me (I have had relationships with Tory Christians and it's just impossible!), and someone who can be sociable and friendly with my family and friends too.

Tall, Dark, Handsome. As the cliche goes.

Actually, Tall is a good thing. I'm 5'8 and I realllllllly like having to tilt my head up to kiss someone. The whole -coming at you straight- because they are the same size thing can make smooching kinda awkward.

Facial hair is almost a must. I dont think I"ve ever really gone gaga-gaga for a guy all baby faced, even my Fellow, I really flipped for him the first time I saw him sport a goatee not his usual babyface.

Other than that, I have my preferences but I can and will ignore them for a great personality! [huh]

Until the beginning of this year I have said many times I would never date a shorter man - I liked them tall, dark and handsome! But then I met and fell heavily for a shorter, ginger-haired man! [huh] lol That's just the way life goes I guess - never say never!

I need to be with someone intelligent and witty, who dresses well and treats me gently. Also, I now can't imagine dating someone who doesn't have a magnificent handlebar 'tache. ;)

I'm not particularly concerned about looks, although i have a weakness for a well-executed pomp fulla grease and men who put a bit of thought and care into their appearance (not necessarily vintage, although i do lean toward the vintage-styled male truth be told). I think kindness, sensitivity, loyalty, humour, intelligence and a dash of wit to be more important than the wrapping at the end of the day. And just someone who i know has 'got my back' so to speak when the chips are down!

if it makes you feel better the average height of a woman in the usa is 5'3"

Height is definitely not a deciding factor if the gent is grand!

Confidence and a quiet but strong way about a man does it every time for me. That's hard to pin down, but I think gals know it when they see it. For me, looks are secondary to that. A man can be handsome and a man can be attractive. Those two things often don't have to go together. Attractiveness is way stronger than handsomness.

On a surface note, a crisp white shirt and good grooming (not in a metro way, just good solid grooming) turns my head every time for a second look.

Haha! You're welcome! I'm 5'10" and the aforementioned chap is 5'8 1/2". I can honestly say that despite my misgivings I have never felt self conscious with him, though I do usually choose flatter shoes so as not to tower too much, and when we have our photo taken I do slouch so we seem the same height. He has said a few times that he likes me being taller than him!

I like men to be very tall, but that is not a problem for me as I am only 5'3". If a man can make me laugh then that is generally the most important thing. I've been attracted to men who I would say are not conventionally handsome (without being mean) because they were so funny. (But handsomeness is always a bonus ;) ). They also must be intelligent, I'm not talking brain scientist material, but so we can have interesting conversations. And of course it helps to have the same things in common.... No religious Tories for me either!

Fleur, I didn't notice a drastic height difference between you and the WT. You suit so well that it obviously doesn't notice/matter.:)

I'm married to whom I prefer, but I will describe him anyway ;)

Tall (all my boyfriends have been over 6 foot)

GOOD HAIR (every single one of them had good, untouchable hair!)

Dark hair and pale skin

Long facial features

Good style

Good taste (exactly like mine!)

Good taste in women (this is important to me. My hubby's ultimate crush is Jane Russell and he *loathes* Maxim-type women!)

Originality and creativeness and the ability to see past BS (hence his aversion to Maxim chicks).

Sense of humour and a childlike personality.

Sometimes a bit of sarcasm and smart-a$$ery will win my heart (hence my huge crushes on Billy Haines and Peter Serafinowicz).

BRITISH!!! They are different than American men and I prefer them.

Supportive of me and my obsessions with various odd things.

Glasses! Used to be mad for glasses, but I can give or take them now. Hubby still rocks the 60s glasses.

Appreciation and understanding of history -- even the "un-PC" aspects of it. I can't put up with a crybaby. My hubby re-enacts SS and doesn't have a racist bone in his body (and he's part Jewish!) People who cry about that or jump to conclusions need to get away from me.

Good taste in music.

He doesn't have to be the smartest guy on the planet. Lord knows I'm not the smartest gal!! I just like a goofy guy who will make me laugh. Seriousness and pseudo-intellect are turnoffs.

One thing my hubby is not is whimsical. He likes to plan things whereas I like to do stuff on the spur. That's where we don't match up, but that's ok lol

A man who is good with their hands. Someone who can take on a project and fix it. Someone who does not procrastinate until the last minute. Responsible.
Honest. A bit old-fashioned with manners. Someone who inexplicably reminds me of my dad. A person with whom silence is peaceful and right instead of uncomfortable.

Physically - I've been attracted to all types. Currently, a little salt and pepper drives me wild. My fiance is barely taller than me. Nice forearms. And a big nose.

I totally get you. Actually my friend dated a man, and what bugged her was that he actually used to borrow her jeans!! She hated the fact HE was the one with the snake hips and the smallest waist in the relationship! Don't know how i would cope with that at the risk of sounding very shallow;) !
