Oh, puh-lease, I've been out in 45-60 gusts up here in Seattle and been unimpressed. Granted, I'm usually packing deadweight-tonnage like a supertanker full of Kuwaiti crude, but still...

How often's this kinda stuff expected to happen? It'd be nice to know what kinda measures I'll have to take while visiting this summer... (I'm not gonna blow away, but it could be enough to knock my grandmother over, make her break a hip or something else uncool.)

The thing is that these winds are very, very rare in the Hollywood area of L.A., especially at this time of year.

We're not used to them at all. It's almost eerie.

Marc, it sounds like if my idea about throwing something together while I'm in LA happens, I should give you guys a crash-course on high-wind survival...

Tip #1: Standing straight up is like begging for a blow-over, an aggressive forward lean helps a lot. (Think "forward and down"--by reducing your frontal area, you reduce the surface the wind has to act on, and by lowering your center of gravity, you make yourself harder to tip-over--of course, I have a naturally low CG anyway, but let's not go there...lol )

Tip #2: As an alternative, you might try a more "bladed" stance, leading with one shoulder, which will also help with streamlining and frontal-area reduction. No CG benefit, but...

Wow, tell me about it.....I saw a whole tree pulled up from its roots laying accross the whole width of a street here in Burbank. So much dust is rising from the Hollywood Hills they look like they are fire again!

Today is a fairly nice day here in the Frisco Bay. I was in San Mateo this morning and the sun was out at 7 a.m. Then in the afternoon I was by the Oakland Airport and just a very light breeze.
