Attached a few photos of Burt Lancaster on a black dress shirt, maybe military issue?

I'm wondering what kind of suit or blazer he would be wearing to make said black shirt work? What colors could this likely have been?

My pure guess is something in the tan/beige/khaki family. Light or medium grey could work, but black shirts are often paired with tan/beige/khaki suits or sport coats.

Agreed. Although a slate gray would work nicely if found.
