King of pop fedora (seriously)

Scanning for hats (as is my want these days) I came across this fedora: http://www.hats.com/p/256411/hatscom-King-of-Pop-Fedora-Hat.aspx

No, I'm not a MJ fan (actually I barely know who he is) but somehow I think I like its proportions. Very classic and vintage looking with its bold height in the front. You'll have to forgive me, I'm still a neophyte hat aficionado and most any fedora still interests me. Any thoughts on the style and make of this one?

I didn't say I was going to buy it. I know its cheep (even for me) I was just interested in comments as to it's shaping and proportions. One thing I've learned is that hat pictures are very deceiving, and I was struck by this particular hat. Thanks though, I do indeed value your opinion, and am eager to learn.

I don't know half of what I'm talking about lol. Most of what I'll tell people is stuff that I've read from other Loungers many times over, until finally it seems like it was my own thought in the first place lol.

As to its shape, the front pinch is "tugboat" style (low in front, rises, then lowers again towards the back). I absolutley LOVE that shape in a hat, and try as I might I have never, ever been able to achieve it (and I've had about 4 open crown hats now, so that's saying something lol). It's got a downturn brim all the way around, which I'm growing ever more fond of as I purchase more and more Outback style hats. The proportions seem excellent.

As to its vintage-ness (word?), I cannot say. I've not been around the Lounge nearly enough to analyze that, despite my rather large Posts Per Day average.

Why do you ask?
I'm sorry, I just couldn't bring myself to buy anything linked to Michael Jackson's name... even if only a tribute item.

Though, I do agree zetwal, there is a strong resemblance between those hats.

The shape of the crown is nice, but it looks 'wrong' to me to not have s snap brim on that style of hat (I know not all of them had back in the day...). Of course, this being a wool hat, I don't think they could put a snap brim in it anyhow?

Neo, after youve got your hat creased basically the way you like it, like say, the one in your avatar, spray only the top front 'Y' with water, and push it down from the top, adjusting the sides as you go. Go down more than you think it appropriate. It will settle back up a bit into a gentle tugboat, the front being a touch lower than the humps toward the rear of the pinch. You may have to play with it a but to get it, but it works.

Thanks for the advice, I'll see if that works! :)

Geez, are you kidding? That's a great price for a nice looking lid. I can't imagine anybody, anywhere coming up and saying, "Hey! King Of Pop!!...where's your glove?!"
I'd wear it proudly and not say a word.

I actually like the way the hats look. I know that they are cheaper, thirty dollar wool felt deals, but I can see this being a cheap way to get into hat wearing, with a little more classic styling than most offerings out there today. I think the darker one looks sharper than the cream colored one, although I feel they should have had contrasting ribbons.
