Ever notice how measurements of a brim width might differ by, oh, a sixteenth to an eighth of an inch from the top side to the bottom? Are you measuring from the ribbon out to the edge on the top? Or from the sweatband reed (provided there is one) out to the edge on the bottom? And are those measurements consistent the entire way around the hat? Some hats, even some higher quality ones, vary a bit. And I'm not talking "dimensional" brims here, either.

And might it be that your typical eBay seller doesn't know hats anywhere near as well as we all do, and that when asked for a brim measurement he or she will give what he or she thinks is a reasonable and honest attempt and still be off by a sixteenth or an eighth of an inch?

I happen to have a Stetson Ambassador, originally purchased at the old Chestnut Street factory store in Philadelphia, on Dec. 23, 1957. It's that pretty sky blue color with a black ribbon and Mode Edge on a 2 3/8s inch brim. One of the nicer hats I have. It's a lot like this new/old hat of yours.

As has already been noted, discrepancies such as the one you experienced are to be expected when buying off eBay. I'm hoping that in this case it will turn out to be a happy accident. To my eye, the dimensions on that hat work quite well.

I am very dissapointed. The brim is 2 3/8. I asked 3 times what is the brim width and it was answered 2 1/2.......to make it worse my friend said You like stingies.? I want to trade this for a hat in grey in 2 1/2 or tad more. Pm me please.
Sorry to hear that the brim size wasn't accurate, Metropd...bummer. But I picked up one of these last spring in a local antique shop and quite like it, even though it's one of the shortest brims I own. Mine is green with a green ribbon, but otherwise same liner, felt, and sweatband. The crown of mine is taller than 5", though...I'd say at least 5 3/4". If I could wear a 7 1/4, I'd offer to buy it from you, but I know that would be way too small for my 7 3/8 head. Good luck,
Steve
