laziest design imaginable, even the handwarmers looks boring

I'm glad you can see it.

What I really wonder is where did they dig out this trash from, anyway? The site says it's a repro of Buco's nylon jacket but I'm inclined to believe it's not even the original Buco's jacket but rather that UK made line they produced later on because it's exactly what it looks like & these plastic jackets began appearing later on, when the production was sourced to UK and Japan.

In any case, it's hideous.

There's no way this could have been manifested out of anything other than a bet over whether they could make the ugliest, cheapest looking, worst fitting, most plain leather jacket ever made and sell it at a premium.

Real McCoy's "Style King". 1570 GBP.

They should have named that " The Perfunctory". Reminds me of Gustin's half hearted CXL jackets. Take leather rectangle, add sleeves. At least the RMC has a decent collar though.

My first thought too was that I like the collar. Overall, it looks so plain though, reminding me of FCL jackets. But this is a much better collar than FCL, in my opinion.

It looks like it also comes with a pre-installed shoulder pucker... now I'll stand back before the shoulder creasing discussion spins up again. ;)

Lol! Good name. My first thought was that drawing of a jacket Gustin posted some years ago, that was supposed to illustrate a meticulous process of how they came up with that boring design. 'cause it's literally like if you asked someone who neither draws nor pays attention to clothes, to draw a leather jacket. There's body, sleeves too... Oh, right, collar as well. Jacket should also have pockets aaand... Yep, that's it. Good enough.

While the RMC above isn't to my personal tastes I think the brown steerhide variant looks better. The black looks too flat.

I actually like the small collar with the ultra minimalist design of the jacket overall

But the ultra minimalist design is what the cheapos are all about. That styling is consistent with so many cheap jackets out there, it's a part of the Balkans uniform, you can find about 20 of them, done in 100x nicer leather any day and twice on Sunday. That's my issue with this jacket; Plain style, virtually no fit to speak of and printed leather - I really have no clue what I'm paying for there.

There; $40 GAP.

I agree with @dwilson -- I like the minimalist design. Many jackets are far too busy for my taste. I don't care for the stamped black HH but I like the brown steerhide. The fact that other less expensive manufacturers produce similar designs is irrelevant. There are countless dirt cheap, crap quality perfectos available at every mall and flea market. Doesn't make the perfecto design any less desirable.

You can call it minimalist, sure, but the word design should not be used in the same sentence as this jacket. It's a rectangle with two straight tubes. No design was involved into making of this primitive, rudimentary garment. Actually, the whole point of it was an absence of design, which is why nylon was originally used as it's simply a rain coat. Rain cover, really. Coat would imply design. Which is why it's crazy RMC did this in leather and is trying to sell it. For money.

Cheapest Perfecto can still make you look good. Or bad, which is good! It says something. Many things. It says you're a biker, a rocker, punk, try-hard, that you're late on the hype-train but you dig fashion or that you're super into fashion and are wearing it ironically, it says that you're a boomer, that you're going thru a midlife crisis... It says a lots of things but primarily, it says you made a choice. You're somebody, that's what it says.
This jacket, GAP or RMC, says nothing. All it does it makes you disappear into oblivion. Nobody is going to say anything. Nobody is going to think anything. Nobody will see it. You won't see it! You won't know it's there. You won't feel good or bad, you will simply feel nothing. It's a void. It is hell.

You're better than that Super. Don't defend this jacket. Run away from it as fast and far as you can.

Your subjective opinion of this jacket is just that . . . your subjective opinion . . . nothing more, and nothing less. Your rabid, unbridled desire to prove that your subjective opinion is objectively correct doctrine that transcends and vanquishes all divergent opinions is counterproductive. Your subjective opinion of this jacket is not more correct or righteous than mine and your attempt to mock me for espousing a different opinion is an unfortunate maneuver.

Please note that I did not disparage your subjective opinion, nor argue against it. Likewise, I did not suggest that my subjective opinion is more correct or righteous. Rather, all I did was share my subjective opinion. In stark contrast, you have repeatedly advanced your subjective opinion regarding this jacket as an undeniably truism that defies and thwarts all disagreement or dissent. Why take such a self-righteous stance regarding a jacket of all things?

You say this jacket lacks design elements. Some of the most praised artwork is the most simple and similarly lacking in overt, emphatic design. The same can be said for many things (e.g., furniture). Simplicity is, itself, an expression of design and creativity.

You do not appreciate the simplicity of this jacket and the corresponding lack of assertive design elements. That's okay. I will not argue against your subjective opinion, nor browbeat you for embracing that opinion. To the contrary, I respect and exalt your opinion even though it differs from mine. I personally appreciate the simplicity and minimal design elements. In fact, I prefer it. What we have here is a plain and simple (pun intended) difference of opinion. Rather than try to prove my opinion wrong, consider respecting and exalting my opinion just as I respect and exalt your opinion.

@Superfluous, picture this; you're in court and you've just made the best, most powerful closing argument ever made in the history of... Legal proceedings. Now, I know it probably ain't the way we see it on TV of course but bear with me. So you made that 20 minutes closing statement, you know it's brilliant, it's a culmination of all the hard work, time, effort you've put into being a top lawyer...

And now's time for the opposing attorney to do his thing. So the dude stands up, points at your client, says "He guilty! Convict!" and sits down while everyone, including the judge are like holy crap, that's brilliant, he's guilty, case closed.

That's how I feel right now when you say this is just my subjective opinion.

I’m gonna jump in here again because this is a great thought provoking discussion much greater than about a jacket or thing. Perception, bias, pride, social experience, on and on, all make us who we are. Here we show and tell with jackets.
By extension our “selves” are exposed for all to see, hopefully to appreciate, sometimes to mirror, doubtful to agree.
Would be a great thread topic.
Thanks for sharing guys.

It's a great discussion. Super said...

Why take such a self-righteous stance regarding a jacket of all things?

And I say because fashion is the highest for of art. So why not a leather jacket? Or rather, what else? After all, what we wear is who we are.

That's how I feel right now when you say this is just my subjective opinion.

This past week, I argued a very important case in front of an appellate court. The tentative ruling was against me so I went first. Two of the three justices grilled me relentlessly. I persevered and argued valiantly. At the conclusion of my 30 minute oral argument, the justice that grilled me the hardest stated: "Brilliant argument Mr. _____. Compelling, agile, rational, and passionate." The other two justices immediately concurred with his praise. Then, after showering me with compliments, the chief justice turned to my opponent and said: "No need for you to argue . . . nothing Mr. ____ said changed our tentative ruling." And thus, my brilliant oral argument was all for not as I wholly failed to move the ball and I went down in flames -- "brilliant, compelling, and passionate" flames, but flames nevertheless.
