I do know it's German, so for a while it was called the German stuff, until Masaye became the name.

For folks considering goat anywhere, I would steer them to the Masaye leather. The goat is great, but some don't like the pebbly texture where horse has a more brushed texture.

The unicorn leather would be the Masaye with teacore, lol.

X-post from WJAYWT:

The fit on this JL is really good and it has broken in very easily. I might have been able to go a little smaller in the shoulders, but it is a good mix of slim fitting a full mobility. It’s not the most exciting jacket to look at, but it feels good to wear and is just so easy to throw over nearly anything.

I recall the pattern of his jacket but don't remember what leather you chose - Horween horse CXL?

Do you mean the width or length? Sleeve width looks a bit wide by your standards, but the length looks great.
yes sleeve length is ideal for me but it feels loose on the bicep/elbow/forearm. It looks okay when wearing a sweater but I rarely need to wear anything other than a shirt to wear jackets here so it feels off or maybe I'm just so used to trim sleeves lol

JL Brown CXL HH. Can't agree more with @Pandemic about how there is full range of motion in the jacket construction. Also had a relatively unremarkable break in period but I noticed the sleeves have stretched a little too much for my liking@. I'm not sure if I should get it resleeved or just make it into a vest.

What kind of model is this? Not a standard, is it? I looked on the Instagram page, but did not see this model.

I could like it too. ;-)

Perhaps just keep it the way it is for the sake of having something different.
That's one way to look at it although I really do like zip sleeves more now than when I had the jacket made,

I agree with this. Mine is a little loser in the upper arm as well, but with suck a thick and stiff leather I think it is better that way and contributes to the comfort and mobility.
yep the Cals are seem to be built that way too, bigger arm holes and generous biceps so it makes for an easy wearing jacket with excellent range of motion,

not a standard JL pattern, I'm guessing it's cut similar to the m200 block without shoulder gussets/side laces/shallow back yoke with different pocket placement. the collar is lifted off of a JL half belt

Jin431- those are both sweet jackets. Really dig the vertical chest pocket on the first one, looks cool and seems like it would be more functional than a horizontal pocket.

the second jacket reminds me of the Eastman luftwaffe. Very sharp.

thanks man, it really is useable I can store my phone easily. JL makes not only make practical jackets but also apply their motorcycle pattern know how into making these civilian jackets so it's easy to wear and move around in.

the cyclist is based off of that jacket, I would have gone with Eastman but their pattern is too long in body length and too wide in the shoulders for me. The JL version has no snaps on the wrist and throat latch. It also has a different hand warmer position so it's more anatomical and easy to use. it also comes with detachable fur collar lol

Has anyone heard from JL? @Jin431 ? Their phones are down and not responding to emails. I put my deposit down in July and they still haven't started on my jacket. Customer service started out great and all the sudden it seems like they just stopped caring. We had issues finding the right leather and measurements for me, I definitely had some indecision that slowed the process down, but they've had the leather in for a couple weeks now and its just radio silence. My fit jacket was a month late, then and I had to wait for the next batch of production from Horween. They were supposed to send me lining swatches but forgot 4 times. If I don't keep calling and annoying them, I swear my jacket would never get made. I hope everything is alright over there..

I am also waiting on a few more jackets from JL. I still have lots of faith in them though.
Covid restrictions has really messed up everyone's supply chain. And the retail guys like JL is taking on all the heat from both the customers and his suppliers.
My last JL jacket was delivered about 1.5 months later than originally anticipated. Still one of my best jackets to date. So I am ok with the delays. In comparison I've waited more than 6 months for my new custom shower glass that will be made locally, but they are waiting for sheet glass from their supplier. And I am waiting on a sink for almost a year now. Not jackets but everything seems to take a lot of waiting these days.

I'm sorry you are having delay issues as well. I can't answer any better than what @Canuck Panda already said. I also have a cross zip order placed in August and still waiting on that too. From what i gathered Damon is the one who handles all comms email/phone/Instagram, he is also the shopkeeper who shows people around and takes orders/measurements and while also the primary pattern cutter and they have as many as 3 seamstress that works 9-5 (if everyone is healthy anyways). It's a pretty small crew and together with supply chain delays plus being that time of the year where people want new jackets, alteration jobs and recently supplying a bulk order for a Japanese retailer I'm not surprised with the delays at all. maybe try reaching out to them through Instagram?

I had sent a request to JL. The first answer came quite quickly, but on my further inquiry nothing more came. Deathly silence since then.
I see it as a sign that there will probably be no jacket from JL for me at the moment. For this then Lewis Leathers got the order. Have enough jackets anyway. lol

Many makers are filtering their customers, if they feel you are too much trouble, too picky or even for whatever the reasons.....
Of course they saw your email, but they choose not to response.
