That looks great JtL!:eusa_clap It is nice to see these lids on noodles. It really highlights what fantastic and special hats these are, and how lucky we are that they are finally on heads and not wasting away in boxes.

Thanks, Bart.

I couldn't agree with you more. I was trying to imagine what it would be like to wander into a haberdashery that was going out of business and discover a vast quantity of untouched vintage lids from the 40's/50's. It really is a stunning thought. And, the fact that it actually happened to johnnyphi, and that some powerful mojo led johnnyphi and those lids to the Lounge is pretty amazing. As you point out, it's nice to see these lids wind up where they're supposed to -- out and about on people's heads! :)

Cheers,
JtL

Wow... You found the Lee Rosetta Stone!

Jimmy... I'm glad you like the Adventure. I think the Lee's are outstanding. They are lightweight like the Adam's, but the felt is much more supple and smooth to the touch.

This ad is really the incredible. :eusa_clap It pretty much gives us the date for most of my Lee hats. I have examples of each hat listed in the ad. In fact, I found a silverbelly Warren in my unphotographed collection yesterday, and I decided to keep it for myself.

I still can't tell a noticeable difference between the Blue Label and Black Label hats. They are both nice.

I also found this 1952 ad:

A few interesting points... In print too small too read here, the ad notes that it was "Photographed aboard Pan American's Clipper 'Undaunted.'" The Adventure is described as "light as air." Also featured are other Lee lids: the All-American, the Warren, and the Corral, all priced at $7.50. Apparently, all Lee hats were treated with DuPont "Aridex" to make them water repellent. The Adventure is a Blue Label quality, priced at $10. In another thread, Harp Player Gene posted a White Label Lee hat priced at $15. I'm not sure where Black Label quality fell in the Lee hierarchy.

Cheers,
JtL

Looks Awesome!

Thanks for posting the photo. I'm glad you like the hat. Keep your eye on the auctions. Lots more amazing 7 1/2 hats headed your way.

From checking some of your auctions, johnnyphi, it seems like the other Lee lids in the ad appear to be Black Label quality. Since the ad lists these lids at $7.50, it seems like the Lee hierarchy went: Black Label ($7.50), Blue Label ($10), White Label ($15). Just a preliminary conclusion, since I don't have a whole lot of familiarity with Lee lids. ;)

Cheers,
JtL

Hey all,
The Missus received her Johnnyphi Royal Stetson Whippet this weekend. What a beautiful hat! As expected the condition is mint, but what I didn't expect was the quality of the felt. I am completely jealous!

Here is a picture of the hat in question and the lovely dame it now belongs to:

Stunning hats, all you lucky new owners! The more of these beauties I see, the more determined I am to win one. The Lees are calling me the loudest.

If you get a shot at a Trinity, I recommend going for it! I have two, and wouldn't mind another.

Alas, the only Trinity left isn't my size, but the Trail looks mighty fine! AND I could bash it to suit me. Don't want to get my hopes up, but I'll bid 'til the wallet smokes.

Hi all,

Here's my Stetson Weekender Zephyr Weight. The bash I put in was my first attempt at bashing (ever), so please forgive. I've been asking an esteemed member for some pointers, and hoping I'll get better (thanks Gary). I won this a few weeks ago and I just got it back for my birthday, very exciting :D . Glad I got this one!
