This is even nicer than it appeared in the photo's. The wide brim ribbon has a lovely green tinge to it (slightly lighter than the ribbon). Goes great with my tweed.

Billy -- that Adam Executive looks fantastic on you. Congrats! :eusa_clap

Your description of the edge binding containing a green tint interests me, since two of my Adam Executives also share the characteristic of having an edge binding that has a slightly different color than the crown ribbon. You may want to check the labels under the sweat to see if there is any description of the model. My lids with the different ribbon color treatment are called "Triports."

Wear that lid in good health!

Cheers,
JtL

So here is the Whippet; a little leather lotion, a little steam, and a stretch. And it gets to keep the original sweatband.

Rumblefish --

Congrats on scoring an absolute classic Stetson! Sure enough, that color looks like a Willow green -- just a beautiful rare Stetson in mint condition. I hate when that happens! :D

You have scored some amazing lids from johnnyphi, lately -- the Schoble and the Stetson Week-Ender are also just outstanding. Way to go!!! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Cheers,

While I just posted other photos of this on the new hats thread, I had to post here, too--in part to join the club, and in part to say to John: you, sir, are a prince among men. Great hat and fantastic experience to pull it out of the box, never-before worn or bashed.

It's still a bit stiff and needs breaking in, but that will come as we get used to each other.

I've been remiss in posting pics of my little JohnnyPhi collection. That was due, in large part, to the fact that each hat I bought from the collection needed some work. That was the case not because the hats were described inaccurately or lacking in any way, but because of my own giant, long melon.

Well, I finally got to work on one of the three hats from Hirsch's I've purchased, the medium gray Lee Fifth Avenue. This 7 1/2 was big enough for me when I got it, but it was not comfortable because of my long oval head shape. So, the other night, I gave it a dunk in cool water and popped it on my whole hat stretcher for a little long ovalizing.

After several hours on the stretcher (pressure applied very gently), I removed the hat, put in my long oval sizing stick, and set it over a turned-on lamp to conform better to my particular shape. After several hours there, all I had to do was wear the hat as it continued to dry.

Today, it fits perfectly. It is, in fact, now one of my favorite lids. The little dunk also softened the felt, which is really a delight to handle now.

When re-bashing, I tried to match the neat C-crown this hat came to me with. I think I did pretty well. I preserved the hat's original proportions, even though the crown is a little low. I don't see any reason to tinker with the history of the hat, and I think the proportions work for me.

Crown Height- 4 1/4
Brim Width- 2 5/8

The evidence:

Shot in natural light. The color is pretty accurate here.

This hat is a real treasure. Thanks again to JohnnyPhi for making this possible.

ANNOUNCING: Johnnyphi.com

Friends,

It is my pleasure to announce the creation of Johnnyphi.com.

The website features over 200 unworn vintage fedoras. This is the remainder of the collection purchased in late 2007 from Hirsh's Mens Store in Bel Air, MD.

The website is live, and the shopping cart feature will be fully functional this evening.

You'll find multiple photos of (almost) every hat, along with descriptions that are very similar to the format used during the auctions. (I took most of the photos, so they aren't as detailed as the professional photos used for the auctions.)

We haven't listed the site with the big search engines, yet, so Fedora Lounge members will have a leg-up on the compentition from the rest of the Internet.

As always, please feel free to email me with any questions, comments or suggestions. My email address is john@johnnyphi.com.

What a superstore!! but finding just one hat in my size ,7½, I decided to look no more.. :( watching all those exquisite hats, beautifully captured in pics just started to pi** me off :rage: .. didn't realise having a big melon could be so frustrating   :(

Compliments on the site! Clean and tight! happy shopping to all fellow loungers blessed with a modest sized head. :)

I just purchased a few hats from the site. They are mostly smaller sizes but there are a few 7 3/8 in there. trust me , the quality on most of these hats are far better than what is made today. Even the basic Adam hats that sold for 5.00 back in the 1950's are great hats.

Thank you all for your interest in johnnyphi.com! We've had quite a bit of traffic, and most visitors are coming through the Lounge.

I can't take any credit for the web design. My friend Todd Hewell did everything, and I agree that it looks great! :eusa_clap (Click his link at the bottom of my homepage, if you're in the market for a website.)

We've had quite a few purchases over the weekend, so we appreciate your patience as we process the orders. This pace is much quicker than our leisurely auction schedule, but I think we'll be able to keep up with y'all.

By the way, for those of you who have PM'd me to ask about particular hats over the past few months, please visit the site to see what is available.

Keep posting new pics. i just bought two more hats! One was an Adam hat made in Italy. I never knew that Adam made some of their hats there. It was under the Bianchi section.

Looking forward to seeing the hats...

I know the hats weren't purchased directly through the Lounge, but most of our customers (including a substantial group from the UK) have arrived at johnnyphi.com via the Lounge, so please post your Johnnyphi hat photos and/or comments here.

(That includes you... Besdor!)
