Not new to the F'Lounge. Wide brim of 2-13/16". Very soft and slightly less firm(more floppy) than most velours. No retailer labeling that I can discover.

Robert,

it looks great on you, it never looked better. I am really happy you ended up with this wonderful hat and that it is with someone who can really appreciate it.

The naming went back and forth after WWI and Austrian rule ended. If you Google you will find some info but not sure about the accuracy.

Has abbreviations next to each: E.S.(English Size) 6-7/8, cm.56, 4-1/2 P.R.(Punti?), 7 A.S.(American Size) although the 5 is more accurate.
Fairly generous for a 5.

I went back and checked some paper labels that have only Point (might not be?) and CM sizing and the CM size is always one less than expected assuming we are dealing with a Point (French) measurement.

Here is one with an external size label and the CM sizes match but not the French Point. In this case I would say the CM is most accurate.

I am pretty sure I brought this up before but I never looked further into it. :) I will see if I can find anything out.

I have not been able to find one single Huckel with the same liner or hat band, does anyone know anything about the Antilope model? The hat shop in Newark has been gone for decades so I have to guess the hat at least 30-40 years old. The felt is very soft and is a midnight blue/black in color, the band is of the same material. 2 1/4" brim and 5" crown at it's tallest. I'm cross posting a few other threads.

I think there might be some TONAK threads. The problem is that you had two companies producing hats with the Hückel name after WWII. One of the JHS owners (the Hückel family were expelled from Czechoslovakia after WWII and JHS was nationalized as TONAK) setup Hückel Hutfabrik Weilheim, Germany and TONAK continued to also use the Hückel name outside of the German market. The old JHS hats are pretty easy to identify (see the hats in this thread) except for the transition period just after WWII. I classify JHS as a German - Austrian hat company because that is what they were up to the end of WWII.

The finish and quality on this velour far exceed the other Huckel hats i've touched. Thanks to Steve for urging me to make this purchase! Well worth it.

J. Hückel´s Söhne Flexible, measures ~ 58cm, 155 grams, probably 1930s. This Melone is in excellent / seldom worn condition. Very unique liner color and sweatband.
