Jiffy Hat Steamer

Thanks Jack. I asked Bill (Buler) about the one he has and he said "The bottle is just like an old gallon root beer bottle. With a round handle on the side of the neck. The steamer has a recessed area where the handle fits." He said it was packed away from a recent move and couldn't easily get a photo. I was at least going to use white vinegar to de-gunk, but the CLR might be better. Hope you had a great trip! Glad to see you back.
Sounds like it won't be a problem getting a bottle to work then. I have a 3-gal waterer for my dog & I know they make smaller 1/2 gal & 1-gal for cats. You could probably find a bottle at a pet supply store to fit & work if need be.

CLR should work good in cleaning up the reservoir, then flush a couple of times. If the steamer happens to have a brass or copper lined reservoir it will look beautiful!

Got home last night. Will have more to post later today but need to go pick up my dog, then go see if I need to pump water for the cows. Run some errands; be back later.

A Merry Christmas present from the in-laws this year. I am now a proud member of the Jiffy Brigade! I have had one on my Amazon wish list for a while now. Mother in law asked my wife what item off the list would be best for a gift this year, they looked and decided that the only hat related item was the Jiffy, neither knew what it was, but thought it would be a good gift. Wow! I have not had a chance to fire this baby up yet, but I imagine my whole collection will be getting a treatment over the next couple of weeks. It is like a Red Ryder Daisy BB Gun with a compass in the stock!

I still have my Daisy BB gun from 60 years ago. Still works but alas is not the one with the compass. Happy steaming!!!

I joined the jiffy jamboree this week. I got a deal on a slightly-used commercial clothes-steamer configuration, and bought a hat nozzle directly from Jiffy.

Nice score, I've looked at Jiffy steamers a few times wondering but they are pretty expensive here ($350-$500ish) so have put up with using a kettle. Was shaping a hat just today and was looking at steamers again just now wishing....

Good get. I just received my JiffySteamer...Amazon for $240 Canadian $. I love it. Had been using a Rowenta hand steamer that works well but the reservoir is small and I was forever refilling. Now I use both...the Jiffy to get the felt saturated with steam and then the hand held for working the final few centimetres.

Bugger :(,
I had to face growing old 'n giving up riding anymore altogether this week (I'm an old ba***rd with buggered hands, gave up horses 2 decades ago and now my last iron horse as well as of yesterday) and the Wife felt bad for me.... If you've ever had horses or been a rider (Iron or Flesh) you'll know the feeling/s. I've always been my own man, a free man!

No tears though lol woohooo, she's ordered me a Jiffy J 1 to cheer me up.... I'm excited if I'm honest, I hope they are as good as they sound, I've only ever used a electric kettle or a billy on a camp fire.

Edit: Man, wrong thread but now I'm super excited as she said I have 2 x Fed IV's coming as well to learn, play and enjoy using the new steamer on...lol.

Hows that for a beautiful woman and a nice win just when you feel down and that black dog is nippin at ya heals! 36 years of marriage and she still rocks my world ;)!

I have had mine for 2 weeks now and love it. I still have to find the right spot for it in my shop. When I am using it I like to keep it running but locating too close causes my glasses to severely fog up as it produces big volumes of steam.....moving it further a way is a pain as then it is not convenient.......I know it is a first world problem to have!!

Beware of going down the Jiffy steamer rabbit hole folks. If you like to tinker and happen to live close to the hardware store, you may end up with more than you bargained for. I wanted a full crown steaming operation, but didn't want to sacrifice the nozzle function. Works like a charm. I have since transferred this set up to the larger J-4000 for even more steam output.

I was thinking more Rube Goldberg.

@humanshoes, is the top of the attachment domed? What does it look like without a hat on it?
It's just a galvanized funnel that I bought at Rural King. I sewed a cloth sock to cover the mouth and prevent the hat from coming in contact with the hot metal.

Say what you want about Rube, but the man knew what a good hat should look like.

Rube and Mr. Wizard are probably two of the main reasons I studied engineering.
