My wife and I have the "Jeeves and Wooster" series on DVD(http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006AVRK/km-20/ref=nosim). These are stories based on PG Wodehouse's novels. These videos could be used as a primer for vintage dress, particularly for hats. Wooster sports a number of different hats in each episode, each appropriately matching the occasion.

I also enjoyed seeing the choice of jackets and pants he wears. He uses brown tweed with grey pants quite a bit. I've also seen him in a grey hat with a brown tween jacket. These are color combinations I might not have thought to try myself.

How do you pick your hats to match your clothes? What's your most daring combination?

I've got the same set (my Christmas gift to myself after a lounger tipped me off it was $38 one day on Amazon) and have been watching...slowly...to savor it (I just finished the NY stories). But you're absolutely right. Like Nero Wolfe, it's got great hats and suits. And on top of that, it's a lot of fun...

this was one of my family's favorite shows to watch together; the whole clan watched, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, everyone. Of course, we were all kinda into British comedies anyways. There wasn't much else to watch in Northern Maine except public broadcasting and Hockey Night In Canada on the CBC! Tremendous show, one of my all-time favorites!

On a side note, it's neat to see that such a talented actor as Hugh Laurie (Bertrum 'Bertie' Wilburforce Wooster) has gone on to greater fame and success here in the States.

I've heard of this show, and seen the advertisements, but I've never actually seen it. I'm a big fan of the Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett, and I love alot of British comedies, etc. I will have to check this one out.

Also for the interested, Stephen Fry does a wonderful podcast that you get on www.stephenfry.com or Itunes. Witty, urbane, and sophisticated, it will make you laugh or, at least, titter.

And rent - if not buy - the Jeeves DVd set. It is hat porn of the utmost degree.

Fantastic fun!

The series is hilarious and correct in many ways. I remember an episode where Jeeves lays out "cricket trousers" in a wonderful cream flannel. the books are great as well.

I saw episodes of this years ago on PBS, as well. Loved it. I'd "discovered" Fry and Laurie in Blackadder reruns in the late 1980s. Saw this and we loved it.

We enjoy Poirot, as well, good mysteries, great sets and locations, and the hats.......

Dr. House needs a hat!

I much enjoyed the "Jeeves & Wooster" series when it was on PBS. Hugh Laurie is pretty good on his newer series as the cranky Dr. House. He just needs a good lid to complete his contemporary look. Maybe we should all start contacting the producer to put a hat on his head! :)

Heck, the animated Art Deco opening title sequence is worth the price of admission on its own. :)

How about that awesome score too? If you search it out on Ebay, sometimes you can find the soundtrack which features material recorded for the disc by Laurie and Fry in character. Very funny.
