I need to get some vintage looking jeans for 1950's/rockabilly wear, but, I am very short 5'1" and UK ladies size 20-22. I know that capri-style are not flattering for me and make me look bigger and shorter! I need a pair of jeans to supplement the pencil skirts and wide leg trousers as I am camping for 5 days in a tent in May and dreading it as I still want to look good. Would wide leg jeans be ok or do I need to give up the idea!? [huh]

I don't really know UK size equivalents, but Stop Staring makes some really cute jeans. They are available here (http://daddyos.com/retro/ckc6.html) at Daddyo's, but I've also seen them on other sites. They are high waisted and the denim has a nice weight to it. They seem like they'll hold up for camping! They are rather expensive though.

I've tried on the medium before (I should get a small) and I think they were a little bit above my ankle. I'm about 5'2" - 5'3", and I don't like them that short, but I believe the cuff can be undone (it's sewn) and shortened so the pants are longer. I guess it all depends on which size you get though!

Yes that was me who posted the details about www.makeyourownjeans.com - the jeans are fine and would be great for camping in. I've got them to make me a wide leg pair inm the heavy 14oz black denim in a high waisted style long enough to turn up. Arrived within three weeks of ordering and I've got them on now! I like to wear mine in a sloppy manner with a pendleton or chunky knitwear. Check out the website - they may be able to help you out.

Hope you don't mind one of the chaps butting in here in the Powder Room - The Denes are Tin Houses womens jeans at £82.00 for 'vintage' denim, chambray or lightweight denim.

Old Town and Tin house have a few fans around here - I started a thread about them here.

BUMP

In the interest of merging threads, I thought I'd just bump this thread up with my question ;)

I know pigeon toe bought some Stop Staring jeans she mentioned further up in the thread... anyone else have experience with them? Is the fit true to their sizing chart on mybabyjo (er actually now that I look at it, I can't find the chart on mybabyjo... I'm guessing the same one as Daddy O's?)

I'm really in need of more high waisted jeans for all my cropped 50s blouses, but I don't want to wander into dreaded MOM JEANS territory lol

I know jitterbugdoll said that she bought the SS ones and that the waist size was off by somethng ridiculous like 4inches, but I'll let her confirm that! I personally love my www.queenofheartz.com jeans, but funny you should make the mom jeans comment since I was appalled to be called, quite loudly, a (M***) by some 13 year old chavs in a mall the other day while wearing mine...

I am not a mother, nor do I want pre-pubescent teens with absolutely no grasp of manners, style or the English language to fancy me. So on second thoughts, don't get the QoH jeans. I may have to rethink them myself. lol (Not really, I have them on now, proudly.)

fleur, i just bought a pair of jeans at the thrift which are higher than most modern jeans, although not quite as high as vintage jeans. the have a great vintagey shape and i wore them to work yesterday with a cute plaid shirt. my coworker let me know he thinks they look like mom jeans! oh well, i like 'em, and it's not like they have elastic at the waist!

I was looking at the QoH dungarees, too, since they had em on mybabyjo...

...anyway, I guess you can't get away from the mom jeans comment, but it's like Shoo said: whatever makes you happy!

(Besides, I always personally thought that mom jeans had to be acid wash, as well lol )

I recently broke down and got a pair of the Queen of Heartz dungarees -- the first pair of jeans I've bought in years -- and I'm still in the process of breaking them in. The fit is very nice -- and they got my waist exactly right, even though I'm not sure I like the idea that they consider me an XL.

The one thing that does concern me, though, is that they come with the dreaded DRY CLEAN ONLY tag. I'm not sure if they can be safely washed in cold water or not -- has anyone tried? The idea of dry-cleaning dungarees is something I can't quite wrap my head around.

I am really intrigued about the www.makeyourownjeans.com site...

Being a shorty with an average waist and larger hips it is impossible to walk into a store and buy a pair of pants that fit well. The regular pants fit will in the hips/waist area, but are about 4-5" too long. I can't buy petite pants because they are too short and too snug every where else. These might be the answer to my blue jean prayers!

Oh I think this is a bit :eek:fftopic:

Hahahaha! Yes, that's what I was thinking!

Okay, I'm officially an idiot... thinking the makeyourownjeans site was some kind of DIY sewing instructions :eusa_doh: lol

And while I can totally see myself messing up my measurements, they start at only $45... hmmm.
