Jeans - help please

I ordered the stop staring jeans at DaddyOs and they arrived a few days ago. They fit perfectly. But I think I don't look vintagy in these jeans maybe this is because I have quite narrow hips and don't look like these models.

I'm having a little trouble. (I feel so rediculous !) I have been having the hardest time finding the perfect 50's jeans.I like the ones at daddyo's, but would prefer something that I could roll up myself.Do any of you know what that cut or style of jeans would be called?

They ARE hard to find. The Queen of Hearts brand mentioned before has the vintage side zip. But if you want to buy modern jeans with a vintage-y look I would say buy a dark wash with a straight leg cut.

Boot cut and flare cuts... well, they flare and you won't be able to cuff them correctly.

I'd also stay away from skinny fit (and especially tapered cuffs) and go more toward a regular fit, but not baggy.

Lucky Jeans have been pretty kind to me in the past, but the trick to modern jeans looking vintage is trying to find ones with a high rise.

Agreed! I found some DKNY high rise jeans, and they look quite vintage on me when paired with the right top and especially when I cuff them! They're my favorite pair, and I almost didn't ever try them on because they seemed too much of a 'mom jean' brand.

Some skinny fits are ok and don't taper. But it depends on your body... I need a skinny fit just because my lower body is quite slim compared to waist and ends up looking like a straight fit anyway.

I also enjoy Lucky because they seem to be the only company that makes waist band higher in the back so your booty isn't hanging out, but it's not much of a high rise. Mid rise at best. And to me they still seem kinda low. But I do have an unusually high waist.

Its alot of trial and error. I literally have to spend a day of shopping trying on jeans sometimes, and even at that I still have only 2 pairs. 1 high rise, 1 mid rise.

I'd give up, but sometimes it is nice to throw on some jeans when its so darn cold outside.

Thank you, Shearer! I thought that it just might be straight leg jeans! I am so glad that you helped me with my little problem! I had resolved to see if I could find anything in mens jeans if no one had any ideas.My grandmother used to roll up and wear my grandfather's dungarees back in the 50's, but I wan't sure about how I would feel doing that-besides mens jeans are proportioned differently.Okay, I'll stop rambling.Thanks again!

ChezPez, you are too right about having to try jeans on. I heard somewhere you may have to try on like... 20 pairs of jeans before you find the perfect pair I loathe trying things on!

I got the SS jeans last week & was also a little bit nervous that they were going to look like mom jeans. Anyway, I wore them out shopping at the weekend, & I couldn't believe how much attention I was getting from guys! I'm still trying to figure out if they were looking & smiling at me cause they thought I looked good, or cause they were laughing at me cause they thought I looked ridiculous! I really hope it was the first one. My jeans fitted perfectly & are really comfortable.

The one thing that does concern me, though, is that they come with the dreaded DRY CLEAN ONLY tag. I'm not sure if they can be safely washed in cold water or not -- has anyone tried? The idea of dry-cleaning dungarees is something I can't quite wrap my head around.

The SS jeans are dry clean only as well, I was also wondering if I could wash them in cold water

I wash my "dry clean only" QoH jeans in a normal wash. They've faded somewhat but only the same as normal jeans do - I've never head something as ridiculous as dry cleaning jeans! If the SS ones are just denim then treat them as you would normal jeans!

You might try Levi's and look at the mens styles. Keep in mind, mens's jeans are cut with a shorter rise, even if the are to fit at the waist and there is no hip room cut into them. I like the 560's. The fit snug in the tummy area and are loose through the hip and tigh. To find your size in men's jeans, take your women's size and add 20 to it. That will give you a starting point. So, I take a 12-14 in womens, so I start at 32 waist. I don't know if this formula will work with UK sizing.

Actually, I just looked at the underside of my SS jeans label and it says dry clean OR hand wash cold, dry flat.

I can't even imagine the time, effort, money of dry cleaning my jeans

Washed my QoH's today with no apparent problems -- cold water, hung on the line to dry. They're still a bit stiff, but hopefully that'll loosen up with time -- I plan to give them a workout on a bike ride this weekend.

I washed the first pair of QoH jeans I bought and they shrunk a good inch (I used cold water and line dried them.) I washed the second pair, and it seems to have shrunk slightly as well, though I can still wear them. If I buy a third pair, I will probably dry clean them, silly as that seems.

Levi's has a great pair of high waisted jeans that are, oddly enough, not available through their stores or website. You have to special order them! They aren't wide legged though, so I don't know how many of you would like them, but I find that wide legs make me look weird.

Target carries Levis men's carpenter jeans, these kind of work for a vintage look, and the price is right $19.99, of course they would probably need to be altered.

I tried some on, I am still thinking about it...the back pockets are really kind of far apart, kind of makes your rear look wider, no body really likes that.

I remember in the mid-nineties when dark indigo demin was all the rage and all of the jean manufacturers were insisting on having the jeans dry cleaned to make sure they didn't fade.

But I think it's much more realistic to just let them fade, because I *highly* doubt that anyone dry-cleaned their jeans in the 1950s.

My evil grandma sent me a pair of Levi's from the 50's my Aunt wore (she was a teenager in the 50's) and they don't look a whole lot different then the ones I have I bought last month.

I'm not that fussy with my jeans, to be honest. I've always worn Levi's (I prefer button fly 501's) straight cut, and I most often steal my dad's before he gets them altered and the tags off (sad, my dad and I wear the same size, except my inseam in 4 inches longer then his.)
