James Bond: Skyfall

Thanks for no spoilers. Tomorrow noon for me! My only gripe about Casino Royale was the gratuitous torture scene, which I hope is absent from this one.

I know what you mean about that scene. I think every male in the audiance was squirming at that, but that part stayed true to the book. Hope you enjoy the movie.

I don't feel that the torture scene was at all gratuitous! Quite the opposite. From the very beginning of Bond there have been references to his sexuality. And it's true to the book, as has already been pointed out.

Just came back from Skyfall. Great! Now I know why everyone is saying 'Bond is back!'

Raoul Silva's Lair

Went to see this Sunday evening. Not the usual Bond as everyone says.
The bit I missed the point of was why did Silva take his teeth out?

He took his teeth out to show what biting into the cyanide pill had done to his body. He had been captured and tortured while in service to MI6 and M didn't get him out - that was one of the reasons he wanted revenge. He took the cyanide pill, but it didn't kill him.

Thanks for that, the acoustics in our multi cinema are not really that good. I knew he wanted revenge on 'M' but didn't get(hear) all of it.

You're welcome! It was really loud in our movie theater - my daughter was complaining that her ears were ringing afterwards. But I am happy to say that I have now converted her to the wonders of James Bond. YES.

Not sure a guy has to be Connery to be sexy or appealing. I sure hope not
I have liked most of the Bond iterations and actors, with a couple exceptions. Craig is the best in years for my tastes, and I think it was time the franchise went a little dark - at least for a while. The comic book / super hero movies have as well, with great success. Must be the times!

I find lots of different kinds of men sexy and appealing - not just the tall, dark and handsome type like Connery.

I agree that Craig is the best in years - I look back at the Pierce Brosnan movies and cringe. Those were sort of, well, not up to snuff, I suppose, and certainly light years away from Craig's version of Bond.

I have to admit I really liked some of the first few of stories(films that is), From Russia With love, Goldfinger and On Her Majesty's Secret Service though one of my later favourites happens to be Live & let Die. Most of Roger Moore's Bond's had a comedy touch to them after that first one.
My favourite stunt ever though was the corkscrew car jump from Golden Gun. Today with special cgi they could have made it spin 8 times and got it to land backwards
I have only read one though and that was Casino Royale, both film versions and the book had torture scenes in them though the Craig version was a little more realistic.
No to Pierce Brosnan, or Timothy Dalton, but if I had to pick a favourite film? Well it has to be Goldfinger.

I too loved Moore. L&LD was probably my all-time fave, but it changes...Some put Moore aside as campy, etc., but that was what it was supposed to be, and I enjoyed it. Still do. I like that there's different Bonds. It would never have lasted had it not gone that way. And back.

Connery IS Bond for me, and Craig is right behind him. I admit that I did like Timothy Dalton at the time.

For the older films, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and Dr. No are my faves. (Notice there are no Roger Moore films in there...I am NOT a fan of Moore as Bond. )

I read a few of Fleming's novels, and I have to say that Craig really manages to nail the character as Fleming wrote it. Bond is not a comedic type at all (like Roger Moore)- he's hard-nosed and gritty and a trained killer.

Agreed. Connery wasn't Fleming's depiction of Bond necessarily, but he made it his own. Craig fits the part more in the literal sense. I just wish he had a bit more personality.

As for Moore, I couldn't stand him in the part. But his snarky attitude fit well when he played the Saint.

My favorite Bond flick of all time is "Goldfinger", followed by "From Russia With Love". They're just as perfect as it can be. Gadgets, but not overwhelming, unrealistic gadgets. (The "invisible car" in... which -- "Tomorrow Never Dies"? "Die Another Day"? -- was just horrible.) The villains were perfect, the macguffins great, and the music spectacular.

Connery will always be my favorite Bond, but Craig is firmly in second place.

Hi All

Skyfall was great. Clearly Craig's best Bond to Date and I would rate Skyfall in the top 6 best Bond films of all time.
The lady's were super, the locations super, the clothing super. Craig established himself as the second best Bond of all time and should he make 2 more films of Skyfall's caliber he may just become The Best Bond.

I didn't spot any fedoras in the film. Did I miss any? Anyway great movie worth the price of admission.

Saw Skyfall today and loved it. I personally think Craig is the best Bond of all, I love the more realistic, dark and gritty feel to his movies. I thoroughly enjoyed Connery, but those movies were too campy, almost cartoonish in retrospect.
