Connery's first three films were fun but the idea soon got old.
Didn't get too old very quickly...."From Russia With Love" and "Goldfinger" both had the record for Box Office Bucks in their respective years. And in 1971 'Diamonds Are Forever" held the record for Box Office receipts...So maybe its gotten old for some of us but the Bond franchise was the first movie franchise to clear a Billion dollars and has still only been eclipced by 'Harry Potter" in Box Office Revenue...And "Casino Royale" is the biggest money maker of the series.

Of course from an artistic and cultural perspective...well thats another whole picture....From the looks of this Thread....maybe my moneys on Putin....:)

The biggest laugh I got from a Bond movie was when Bond calls the room service and orders black coffee and fresh figs for breakfast. I suppose even heroes get constipated... Anyway, it bugs me that I can't remember which one it is –– I think it starred Sean Connery ("black coffee and fresh figsch"). Ring any bells, anyone?

I've read on another board (Commander Bond) that James Bond will still be ordering a Vodka Martini, and that the Heineken bit is only one part involving a non-descript beach bar.

I have heard nothing but good things about it. I know Edward here at the Lounge saw it and said it was the best Bond movie in years.

I'm going to see it tonight, so will share my thoughts afterwards.

Saw it yesterday and found it very enjoyable. But I didn't feel like I was watching a Bond movie, just an action/adventure flick with Mr. Craig. They did several things near the end of the movie that I wish they had NOT done.
There was no connection with any of the past movies except for the Bond and M. characters and a short appearance by his DB5.
The villain is very likable, which seemed quite odd. People in the audience were laughing at him in several scenes.
But do go see it. I really can't expound without providing spoilers.

OHMSS is the best of the series, in my opinion. Lazenby was a bit uneven, but it was his first acting job and he has much of a young Connery's physical presence and roguish charm (ladies will see what I mean right away). Rigg was wonderfully plausible as the sort of woman who Bond might fall for: not as flashy as his usual sex toys but a real woman, and I think it makes perfect sense he would truly fall in love with only one woman in his life. The action is great and pre-dates the ridiculous action scenes of later years. . . .
There's a fine little detail late in the film. Bond has been locked up in the cable shed where the ski lift machinery is, and he needs to get across to the other side. The cable is the only way. So, instead of some gadget, he pulls out his trouser pockets, rips them off, and uses them as gloves as he edges across. Very Fleming-like.

Just saw it - very well done. Incredible performances. People were clapping in the theater when it was over, so that says something. I'm still mulling it over. I usually have to see a film like this twice to really decide how much (or how little) I like it.

I saw it last night and did enjoy it, I'll try not spoil it for anyone so I will just say I thought it was worth seeing and would recommend it. While Craig is not everyone's cup of tea, I think he has helped to revitalize the franchise which was to my mind in a bad state from the time they hired Roger Moore until they got Daniel Craig. If you want to see an early Daniel Craig film which in a way shows his Bond potential check out Layer Cake.

I too saw it last night. All I can say is wow. It is one of the best Bond flicks to come out in a while. I want to say more, but I do not want to spoil it for those who have not seen it yet.

Thanks for no spoilers. Tomorrow noon for me! My only gripe about Casino Royale was the gratuitous torture scene, which I hope is absent from this one.
