Jacket Sizes in comparison with height

For guys under 6 foot tall.

I know we give manufacturers the benefit of the doubt but I believe that there are many more people that can’t fit into a stock jacket because once they find their chest size, the body and sleeves are too long.

Once you get to a chest size of 44”-46” then you end up with sleeves of 27” and body length of 28-29”. This would only work if you are over 6’ or 6’2” unless you have extremely long arms.

Statistics show that in the USA only 14% of men are over 6’ and only 3.9% over 6’2”. Only a small fraction of jacket purchases are posted on this forum or others so I’d put money on it that the majority of these larger sized jackets fit terribly considering the population that goes to the gym and the people that are a little heavier or barrel chested are going to have a higher pit to pit but still need average sleeves of 24”-25”

Just a rant but there is some truth to it.

And a big thank you to manufacturers that allow simple length changes, like Lewis Leather, I think Lost Worlds, Addict Leather on some models and Ofcourse the few full custom designers that are left in this world.

I'm not sure what's your question lol, but my answer is Thedi.

I don't have to worry about sizing when ordering a Thedi, I leave that up to Theodoros.

I know you like cafe racer style jackets. Have you seen this Thedi?

Not a question, just a thought. I know thanks to all of you guys where to go to find a jacket that fits, i just really think manufacturers have lost their way in sizing their jackets by assuming that the majority of people with a larger chest circumference will be taller. I think with the large population of obese people in the modern world and also the fairly large population that work out and have more muscle mass that they their jackets would fit better if they were aimed at an average height of the population.

Thedi makes some great designs and eventually I will try and get one, I like but not love for the price the first cafe racer in black horsehide on his site. I hate those ones with the ribbed sides though.

I think after the Lewis Leathers is figured out I want to try the Bill Kelso HD sportster reproduction or if I get crazy and want to drop the cash, I really love the Himel Brimaco reproduction. But I’d have to have plenty of drinks before I spend $2,650on one jacket

*Edit*. It’s also not hard to imagine manufacturers reading this forum for feedback and ideas, being that most are relatively small companies. So by chance some read this it might make them consider incorporating a model with average length and sleeves with larger chest into their lineup to see how it does.

I would almost bet on the fact that the manufacturers do use average dimensions. Your problem (and mine) is that you do not correspond to this average.
Less height and more chest circumference and narrow waist is not average. I don't see many of them when I'm out in public.
If your body shape was average, the clothes would be cut accordingly.

I’m not sure it’s as bad in Austria but here in the USA due to fast food, oversized portions and frozen convenience foods that tend to be less expensive than healthy options, I guess I would just assume that men have larger chest circumference due to overall body weight, not necessarily muscle mass. You’re lucky you’re tall as most of these brands are made for you, then again you probably go for custom as the hem is probably too baggy on you.

My problem is that I’m undersized for the average American. I’m 135lbs and 5’7.5. But most of that length is in my torso and my arms are long for my size. So sleeve length and body lengths are usually good for me on smaller sizes but chest sizes are huge. A lot of brands don’t offer extra Smalls or below 36 sizing. The few that do then at that level do start messing with sleeve length and body length and then they are too small in those ways. I would imagine actually I would be a good candidate for Japanese brands stock sizing in 36-38 but the cost has so far been prohibitive for me.

Definitely same problem but in a different area. You would have to check but I think Johnson Leather has custom sizing with starting prices lower than most depending on model and options. Bates leather has their competition model starting at $800 and is made to measure, that’s about the same as a Schott.

As far as Japanese brands, Addict Leather starts at size 34 which I’m sure you see from reading that size number means nothing because the actual proportions vary. They also do a made to measure and start out around $1,200 usd which as far as I can tell is one of the least expensive Japanese brands.

I just know that more people would own any of these brands if there were a simple short, regular, and long sizing model. Just from seeing fit pictures showing sleeves too long or too short, I know I am not the only one that has thought about that.
