Jacket Hangers

This is by and far away the most ridiculous thread to ever hit TFL. It long surpasses "trucker" shortz (except not as funny) and has reached wuthering heights level melodrama. I will full swing a Louisville slugger at my jacket and give not one F. Then I'll sell it the next day. Hanger? LOL. My jackets don't "hang" around long enough to care...

Actually this is not a bad thread at all and can see the point Aero is attempting to make. The problem with creasing occurs with the excessive downward angle of most traditional hangers, even the ones with broad coverage of the shoulders, and the creasing is accentuated when jackets are stored zipped or buttoned up. The one thing I might like to see with the Aero hanger might be broader coverage at the shoulder and maybe extended a bit farther laterally? I will say though Aero is the expert in this arena, and I am definitely not!

This is the picture on Aero's website, and one can understand the mechanics of how creasing could occur with sharp downslope of the hanger especially with the jacket zipped.

IMHO, not all creases are desirable. Sleeve creases are great! However, IMHO, chest creases that materially change the lines, drape and fit of the jacket are not desirable. Chest creases diminish the natural, clean and intended lines of the jacket. Chest creases give the appearance that the jacket does not fit well (either because there is excess material or the leather is pulling). I agree that natural wear and patina gives a jacket desirable character and looks great. That said, does anyone here genuinely believe that long creases transversing the chest of a jacket look good and/or improve the appearance of the jacket? Does anyone here really believe that the chest crease depicted in the below photo looks good and/or improves the appearance of the jacket:

I certainly don’t favor such creases.

If a hanger can potentially minimize undesirable chest creases that, IMHO, materially diminish the lines, drape, fit and appearance of the jacket, that’s an option worth considering. To be clear, I am not stating that Aero’s hangers will accomplish their intended purpose – I will know more next week. However, if they do work, more power to them. It appears that shoulder width plays an important role in terms of the effectiveness of Aero’s hangers. I am hopeful that my 18in shoulders will fit Aero’s hangers better than Carlos’ larger shoulders, which plainly extend beyond the ends of the hangers. Perhaps Aero should consider offering their hangers in different sizes.

Those shoulder creases wouldn't concern me unduly. But maybe now, thanks to this thread, I'll develop a complex about them.

I'm happy with the word 'complex' Super... A pejorative? Well only if you want to avoid having a complex about something.... My intent is this: I do not need another thing to become overly concerned about in my jacket life. I already worry about zipper tape coming off, shrinkage and sweat corroding the collar so an unhealthy worry about chest creases...? I don't need that.

Fascinating. I have never once contemplated zipper tape coming off, nor sweat corroding the collar. Moreover, my newfound awareness of hanger induced chest creasing -- something I never previously considered -- is far from a complex. Frankly, my most serious jacket related concern is the current lack of opportunities to wear my jackets.

I don't think anyone has been made fun of or singled out here. I do find the thread amusing and the answer to people's hanger "fears" was actually posted on the first page.
I'm also a bit shocked to see how easily some people's feelings are hurt and the sensitivity level seems to be at an all time high here. About hangers mind you. HANGERS.

We do have to watch sensitivity levels - some rough kidding brings a bit of life to this place.

Some people's sweat can destroy collars. Mine takes the dye off the collar back of many jackets I've owned. This is if you wear t-shrts. Like Butte, who used to post here, I wipe off my collars with a wet cloth regularly and use a little Pecards every few months, just around the collar area. I have seen a couple of collars almost rot away. Tape has come off three of my jackets and the zips seem compromised. I also don't wear my jackets enough and have, to that end, sold all but 4 leather jackets.

Unfortunately I just started talking to Brooks sportswear about getting a new 511 - the famous cafe racer pattern. I do not want to consider the effect of chest creases (sounds like a euphemism) in this order.

i once developed a complex about arm creasing - G&B model jackets have a thing going where the upper arms have a strange crease that no other brand has. It felt like I was walking around with 'dick head' written on my forehead. Of course no one noticed. I'm over this now.

I think basic common sense for care of a jacket is all that SHOULD be required. If we are paying north of 1 and 2 K for a jacket that becomes destroyed by simply storing it...something is wrong.
I've never noticed any undesirable effect from hanging my jackets on crappy hangers (other than breaking the hanger). I now use a broad shouldered hanger and add a pool noodle, primarily to stop breaking hangers and support the shoulders a bit more.

My partner has joked in past years of my jackets needing a massage and a bubble bath to keep them looking good. My fault. I told her that Pecards works like moisturiser.

There is a natural tendency to want to preserve something and keep it pristine but for a leather jacket I think that's wrong minded. The whole point is to personalize it through wear and I suppose to some small degree through storage. The jackets creasing destiny is shaped by how it's used much more than how it's stored. Wear will eventually rub out or reinforce creases. The vertical crease in question will happen to every leather jacket. All of mine have had it to some degree. New/vintage. Even right out of the box before it's ever been hung. First time I put them on I can see the crease begin. I've got terrible news folks. We are all doomed.

Hell, the fact that we spend so much loot on jackets, shoes, denim, etc. has got to be viewed by most normal humans as a complex. And when I tell people I heard something about a brand or leather on a forum they look at me like I have a complex. Especially my type-A, macho man and woman co-workers and staff. Lol. Embrace it.

I agree there and actually to me, the Aero hanger exacerbates that problem. The padded, broad shouldered hanger is a better option imho.

Ha, every time. When I ride to the west coast of FL I have to cross the Everglades, where the bugs crashing into you feel like you are being peppered with rubber bullets. Effin’ great feeling being on the road, get back out there!
