Jacket alterations

I've just acquired a new cotton sport coat, but the sleeves are just slightly short for me. I'm afraid if I have the sleeves lengthened I'll end up with a crease around the cuffs at the original length. The jacket is brand new, so I figured if I'm going to try to do it, now is the time. ANybody hae any experience with lengthening their sleeves? Will a good tailor be able to get those creases out, or will the jacket always have something of a crease there?

Hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I have tried to get sleeves lenghtened a few times and have never had any real sucess at it.

Supposedly, the ideal way is to have a tailor remove the sleeve at the shoulder and move it down- I got that information from Alan Flusser.

As the posessor of a pair of long arms myself, I sympathize with your situation.

That's sorta what I thought, and I wasn't sure I wanted to risk it. There's really not much material on the inside to let out anyway, so it probably would have made for a poor job regardless. Oh, well.

Thanks for the feedback, though!

While cotton is the least forgiving fabric for alterations, it still may be doable since the jacket is new(unworn) and therefore creasing has been kept to a minimum. Try taking it to a good tailor for an opinion.
