Ivy hat advice

I want a hat to wear with 40s/50s ivy league style/natural shoulder clothing. Something like this (although I doubt it's an exact reconstruction):

The crown and brim are not massive, nor are they as miniscule as they became in the 60s. Another characteristic is that it is very soft.

I really don't know much about hats in general, or fedoras in particular, however I suspect that this could be a close match:

As many of you have specialist knowledge, can anyone please advise if they spot any features of the above that distinguish it from hats of the past and/or hats from the US (the above is British).

When a hat is "battered almost beyond recognition into a shape never conceived by hat manufacturers" then represented in a drawing, it is mostly impossible to reverse engineer any features that would point to a valid starting point production hat. JMHO

Most any hat would do to become a beater as described...

Point taken, however the picture I have given is not my only reference point. I'm seeking something similar to a soft fedora from the USA in the 40s and 50s. If there is a campus connection too all the better, but as I cannot provide much info on this detail, it is not essential.
