Kind of ironic in that most great vintage movies involve dinner at ten, and dancing or watching the floor show till god knows when.

Ah, but being a curmudgeon is fine. But it is an art. You must be charming and preferably witty. Otherwise you are just an ass or a grouch. many a would be curmudgeon comes off as such.

I say the same standards should be applied to a drunk.

:eek:fftopic: I have to laugh because this thread is starting to sound like what conversations are like in the wee morning hours.
Honey used to work night shift when we got married. 3 to 11. We used to grocery shop at midnight. We also used to like I stated go dancing alot as this is when we lived. You cannot exactly go to the local park at midnight.
Many people live their lives like this every single day. This thread reminded me of how it was for us. Now with children I cannot imagine even trying.
People have different set internal clocks.
I definitely have had my deepest conversations though early in the morning.

These cities stay open late, have a lot of nightlife, and cater to those who enjoy it. The rest of the country (with a lot of great cities as exceptions) close earlier and are populated with people who enjoy the country. This forum brings both types together. Since there are as many non-city folk as city folk on the forum, to the city folk it probably seems that the country folk are curmudgeons. I'm sure the country folk think we're crazy, lascivious drunks. ;)

It does, right? I'm not sure it's valid, but it makes sense. lol

It makes sense to me, too.

I grew up in NYC and would party til dawn.

Here in Maine, you might find some action at the local bean suppa. :)

It makes sense to me. I am non-city now, can't stay up late, still do drink but only once a month and if we had any sidewalks, they'd roll up by 10:00. Unless you go down to the Pismo Beach, that's where all the out-of-towners go to party. Or up in San Luis where the college is, I hear they stay up late ;)

Me, i'd kill for a 4 a.m. drunken breakfast now and then, with Blood Mary please.

You can take the girl out of the city, but it's really hard to take the city out of the girl.

Hah! You've been up here so long you're absorbing our ways.

For me, there's always that moment of culture shock -- we book a lot of blues acts here, who are used to a more round-the-clock sort of environment. But when they ask me where's a good place to go after the show, I have to tell them the only thing open after 11 is Tim Horton's. And then I have to explain what Tim Horton's is.

Well, a drunk is a drunk. IS there a word with positive connotations for a drunk. I can't think of any offhand. WC Fields would certainly qualify.

It is said he really did live the lifestyle. Never drank water, and is obviously drunk in many of his scenes. But, it is claimed he got funnier and funnier and more charming the drunker he got and once fell down a staircase holding a martini and did not spill a drop.

Oh, that we could say that about any of us when drinking.

Back in the old vintage movie days they had shows worth watching at 11 pm. Most clubs now have one DJ in the middle of the place playing the same set of rap music over, and over every night.
