Eastman 1942 RAF Irvin in VINTAGE finish, any owners here ??

Hi dudes,

I'm about to buy a repro Irvin and this Eastman is my favourite so far, I prefer the subdued matt finish on this vintage version, does anyone here own this particular Eastman and can offer opinions/review ?

Many thanks

I don't own this one but I purchased a 1940 Pattern Eastman Irvin. Have a look in the big Irvin thread for my comments about sizing, etc. I love my one!

I have one of these jackets. When I first saw the sample I wasn't sure whether I liked it or not, particularly the slightly red colour of the fleece , but the jacket itself looks very authentic . There is a slight colour issue regarding the seam tapes compared to the body panels, but this is more than compensated by the superb cut of the jacket particularly in the shape of the arms. I have found the Eastman pattern to be very good compared to the [few] originals I have owned or handled. It is a short jacket but very comfortable to wear as there is almost no arm restriction at all and can be worn while driving on a bike.

Great pics of your ELC Irvin, John. I wonder whether the colour of the seam tapes varies on different batches of ELC Irvins. The majority of the originals I have owned or own from 1941-3 have darker seam tapes. A great jacket which looks very stylish.

Many thanks for those great photos John ! It's always better to see one "on the person" than in the adverts....I prefer the gingery fleece that this one has to the more creamy shades...

This is the only repro I have seen in which the colour of the fleece comes near to a good original, say a DGL. I reluctantly acquired a midwar-style ELC (it was a bargain) and I must say I have worn it as much as any of my originals.

If you want to 'take it to the next level' I suggest replacing the zips with more authentic Lightnings.

Another one Smithy???? Just how cold is it in Norway?lol

My new IRVIN is still in production. Or maybe not even started yet.
But some day soon....:D

Is it possible for one to have too many Irvins Spitty :D

Actually I'm perfectly happy with my new one so no need for a new one whatsoever.

Bet you can't wait for yours to turn up!

Right boys!! Just to keep your morale up (a little video..)

:eek:fftopic: Thought you might like this clip of the boys from Hornet Squadron, circa 1940!!

It's sort of 'on topic' with the Irvin thread and I thought the merits of this little morale booster outweighted anything else, so ENJOY!! Boss's orders!!!

Irvin Trousers Pictures

I have taken a load of pictures of the irvin trousers i won on ebay.they are in wonderful condition, even though the main front leg pockets are missing, and one of the zip pulls is a piece of copper wire.some of the pictures, mostly the close ups,are not great.this is because it is dark a lot now,so i have had to resort to taking the pictures using the light bulb, and a surefire torch shining on bits of it.
Anyway, here are the pictures, uploaded to photobucket.

Hopefully, one day,i will come across a complete pair, with pockets,in my size.a 30 - 32 waist and short legs.I tried to take photos of the main bits and pieces, including the beautiful condition of the sheepskin.I think picture 8 and picture 5 show the true beauty of this sheepskin.

thank you

thank you smithy.i must say,all respect to the original owner who sold it.they arrived exactly how you see them in the picture.there is absolutley no smell of any kind coming from the sheepskin or leather, and no dirt anywhere.the seller i got them from took unbelievably good care of them.I really wish he told me what he did to keep them in such wonderful condition,he is an absolute master at taking care of original irvin leather and sheepskin.
Oh,by the way.in pictures 21 and 22,the furry looking thingy, draped over the stair landing bannister,is my original 1941 - 1942 irvin flying jacket.it still smells musty,so i'm airing it there for the time being.I haven't started cleaning it up yet,as i spotted the trousers, and decided to put all my money into buying them.
