Indy hat post em up

Just arrived - Adventurebilt.

I've always liked the idea of a grey Indy hat - even had one on order from John Penman, but I switch to his Casablanca model instead.

Then when I discovered that Steve Delk was still taking orders for hats, I ordered one him him, the rabbit version. A while later, I upgraded the order to his beaver felt version and the hat has arrived!

The shot of the underside of the brim is the closest to the actual colour. I think the felt is Winchester's Granite.

DJH, if you ever find yourself staring at all your hats, wondering how it got to be so, just read your own post and all will become clear.

Btw, fine looking cover!

I've just received a 'Raiders' from Advintage, a German hat maker specialising in Indy hats. He sources his beaver felt from Portugal and the quality of the felt is amazing. really dense, yet buttery smooth and soft.

Here are some snaps:

Here is a close up of this amazing beaver felt:

For european members you really should check Thomas out. These are seriously good quality hats.

This started out as a 4X Resisitol Stagecoach Indy conversion by John Galt, but I changed out the Center Dent and gave it a C-crown crease because I was also inspired by Alan Ladd's fedora from the movie, China. So, it's a hybrid Indy / China fedora...

That looks very good indeed! I did check them out last year, contacted Thomas, ready to buy, and he sent me a gloomy message saying he'd stopped making custom hats for the time being. :(

So I went with the Fed IV instead. Good to see he's back in business.

I believe he had a family illness to deal with, but yes he's back making hats and his turn around time is only 3-4 weeks.

His new felt really is incredible, it is extremely substantial, very very dense. I imagine it would stand up to anything! Much denser than the winchester beaver felts I own. It is also a slightly different colour from the winchester Indy brown.

The closest thing I have to an "Indy" hat is my dark brown Fed IV. As much as I like the iconic "Raiders" hat, I didn't want something that immediately brought Indiana Jones to mind whenever someone saw it so initially I gave it a more generic Center Dent crease like the "Crystal Skull" hat(s). The trouble was that my head would push the dent up from the inside the moment I put it on. I like the look of a Center Dent so I tried to wear it that way for several years, but it never looked right so I finally admitted defeat and gave mine a Diamond crease.

It isn't "Indy", but I liked it so much that I creased my other Fed IVs that way.
