STRAW Indiana Jones Cowboy Outback Fedora Hat

Apparently, as I'm learning, this is a tough item to find. An eBay seller says that this is rare and when his 'smalls' are sold they'll no longer be available. Problem is, I'm a 'large' and I want one!

If any of my fellow FL Fedorians know how to find one of these out there in the world, will you please let me know? I have been unable to find one online, other than the 'small' listed currently on eBay. A Google search hasn't helped either.

Let me know if we come across one somewhere; you can always PM me with the particulars. Wish us luck! ;)

Thanks, Dixon Cannon

Dix,

If you do find this, please let me know. I'm somewhat keen on this hat as well now that you've shown it.

This does not resemble an Indy straw. The bash is all wrong for it. The center crease is a tear drop shape but should be a center crease. The side creases need to be more pronounced.

I think Panama Bob makes an Indy styled straw..

I was lookin' at these...

... in the early summer as a possible summer lid, I wrote the seller to ask about the fiber composition & :rage: never got a reply:rage: ...P.O.'d me so I kept lookin'. If it makes you feel any better, they are made of Toyo (paper) not a real panama...

Indy vs Indy

I think the Peter Brothers is a Milan style "paper" straw, but I'm not sure.
The one on Ebay.... I see it on Ebay every time I do a hat search. They shouldn't be that hard to find. At any rate, if it's the bash you like, you'd be better off having Art or Bob copy it. Rare or not, the "official" Indy hats (in my experience) are always lacking in quality. Also, I think Aztex Hats and the Village Hat Shop carry hats in the same shape, but without the Indiana Jones tags. Do a google search for their websites.

My understanding is that any "straw" made with "Shantung" is actually made from a paper material. It's not bad stuff if you know what you're buying.

It’s the hat that started it all, for me anyways. When the Indy trilogy came out on DVD it rekindled my desire to own an Indy fedora. I started by checking out local hat shops. Most of them around here though only sold ball caps or cowboy hats. One day I was with some friends, and we stopped into this small shop on Mill, since one of them was looking for a new ball cap. On the wall, in the corner, I spotted a few fedoras. I walked over, and there it was, an Indiana Jones fedora. At least that’s what the label said it was. It was brown with a teardrop crown. I almost got it, but deep down something just didn’t feel right about it. It was wool felt, and it was $50. My friend then said he had seen Indy hats at Disneyland. Upon visiting DL a couple months later I did get one form there. The Disney fedora was a little better quality, but still didn’t feel right. That’s when I started searching the web. After a couple days I discovered Indygear.com. I signed up for the forum (COW) a week later, and well, the rest is history.

I would love to own a Montecristi with the Indy creases, creased height 5 inches at the tallest point on the sides, a nice rather square block shape with a dimensional brim of 2 7/8 by 2 3/4. Wish in one hand and..............

I guess you might find a Montcristi with a tall enough crown, but getting the brim back woven(I think that is the term) with a fairly accurate dimesional cut would be impossible. I never liked the weave on the Milan hats. Too corse looking to me. Fedora
