If you could choose, what city would you like to see crushed by a giant monster?

I'll go with Seattle, even though I own property there and plan on moving back. It would be worth the sacrifice to get rid of the pretentious wealthy intellectuals, Amazon, etc., and start over. In 100 years or so the city would have character again and I could have my head un-frozen and reattached to a better body, ready to have some fun.

Ok, not necessarily a city, but a large town (for Nebraska standards!) here in Nebraska: Scottsbluff, which is the largest town in the Panhandle of Nebraska, and an eye sore. Lots of bad memories there. A giant monster could crush it completely and I'd be a-ok with it.

Doesn't look very "snug", from above. So I think, it's ok, too. :D

Dallas.

To quote Will Rogers (I think): "There's a world class city about 30 miles to the west." I avoid Dallas like the plague unless I absolutely have to go there. It's dirty, it's crime ridden, and every city surrounding it is mistaken for it by outsiders.

Wouldn't mind seeing it get stomped by a giant lizard, or taken out by Mothra.

After due consideration, I would support this idea (as long as it is a really big, really bad, monster). Then we'd have a reason to "nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

Hahahaha! I am SO GLAD you agree with me! Every time I go home to Bridgeport, I make it a point to NEVER go to Scottsbluff.

It seems I'm not the only person at my office who is a member--or at least, a lurker--here. I walked into the breakroom last week and stepped into a heated re-hash of the recent conversation about Scottsbluff. Naturally, I was concerned lest someone mistake our discussion of the appropriate fate for the Western Blight on the Great State of Nebraska (not to be confused with the Eastern Blights: Lincoln, Omaha, and Memorial Stadium) for simple dislike of the community.

As it turned out, my concerns were groundless. My co-workers didn't object to populating Scottsbluff with city-destroying monsters, an alien (or Alien) invasion, or seeing the community become Ground Zero for a plague. (It was pointed out that a Zombiepocalypse wouldn't work there: no one would notice.) The only question anyone had was "The monsters will get Gering too, right?"

I made it almost back to my desk before I cracked up.

There's a suburb of what is now East London that was once part of the county of Essex. The place is known as Dagenham. In the UK, social housing for the least well off are referred to as 'Council Houses.' So called because the local council is the landlord. When Ford sited it's UK factory alongside the railway line in Dagenham, it was welcomed by the council, who saw prosperity and jobs coming to the area.
The factory was going to need workers and so started an urban sprawl like no other. Every street, home, shop, even places of worship, all looked like an homogenised blend of one and the same building. The area became so huge and so, same old, same old, that locals joked: There are only two structures that can be seen on earth, from outer space, with the naked eye. The Great Wall of China and The Dagenham Council Estate.
If you bombed it flat it would still look the same.
Revive an 'olde' thread.
Known as the Becontree Estate. 10,000 houses almost all identical were built, starting around 1910 but mainly the post war building increased this to around 25,000+ (Source was an old magazine, either Geographica but I think it was the US based National Geographic Magazine from the 50s) .
When build the council put in place covenants which meant: You had to keep the gardens tidy, your house could not be passed onwards to your children and one I know still exists, you could not advertise goods for sale in your windows nor put 'For Sale' signs on cars parked on the soft verges. Today the council will paste over any signs blanking out the offending items even on privately owned houses(Margaret Thatchers legacy)

Houston,Texas. I've had to fly down there several times in the last two years and stay for weeks at a time taking cancer treatments. Everything is busy busy 80 MPH traffic on six lane+ interstate over passes and underpasses with new parts of that maze under construction at all times. Plus the humidity and smoggy fragrance in the air is sickening to this Hoosier boy. Send in the monster.....

I've got a new candidate... Saratoga Springs, NY. I know Saratoga or "Toga" is the oldest racetrack in the country but sheesh. Six months of the year the place is overrun with tourists of the worst stripe. Can't park, can't walk, can't do anything and during track season (which they keep lengthening) it's 3 times as bad. Over the years I've played many a gig in that town... now I've given it up. Not worth the hassle and they instituted noise ordinances which makes live music playing (which I still do) a possible trip to the hoosegow. Ubriago! Flame it! Stomp it! Boil it in oil!
