If anyone attempts to send me a PM or posts, expecting a response, I'm not ignoring you - my i.p. address has been blocked by this site. Unless I go to a coffee shop to connect, I can't even view the lounge, and I'm not up for making special trips.

If anyone wants to stay in contact, please ask rlk for my email address. Thanks

Try unplugging your modem and router for several hours, that should make your ISP generate a new IP address for you when you turn them back on. The question is, why is your IP address blocked in the first place?

You shouldn't even need to do that...

Open a command prompt (Start->Run type cmd)

Type ipconfig /release

Then ipconfig /renew

That will release your current IP and then go out and get a new one. Unless you getting a static IP you should have a new IP. You can check your IP with:

ipconfig

Hope that helps you.

BTW - if you're Mac you can disregard, I'm not Mac compliment :)

FFF, that only resets the machine IP address. What's being blocked is the IP address assigned to your internet connection by your Internet Service Provider. The easiest way to reset that is to turn off your router and modem for a few hours.

"HTTP 404 ERROR' IP ADDRESS BLOCKED BY THIS SITE. THE OWNER OF THIS IP ADDRESS HAS COLLECTED AND POSTED TOO MANY FEDORA PURCHASE POSTINGS AND HAS BEEN BLOCKED. TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, DISTRIBUTE WITHOUT CHARGE, THOSE FEDORAS TO OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SITE."

This is probably the complete message you are receiving. Your PC may be dropping everything past the first sentence. E-mail me and I will provide you my home address to start the repair process. If you want it remedied faster, send the hats FedEx overnight.
Glad to help out a fellow lounger.

No clue what's going on, Scott. But one of my pals is a serious computer geek, so I'll ask him if he knows anything, when I see him tomorrow.

Scott -- this happened to me a couple of months ago. In the end, it was a router problem. Switched out the router -- no problems ever since.

Go to a website like this one to find your IP address. Then contact a moderator or the owner of TFL and tell him your problem and your IP address. Your IP address was probably temporarily banned for "excessive" page loads or searches in a short period of time. The problem might clear itself up on its own.

As Lefty mentioned, you can use a proxy or VPN to get around the problem. But know that they are not secure and it is possible to be eavesdropped. Use with caution.

What Mr. E Train said...

IP addresses are dynamically assigned by your ISP to your cable "modem" or DLS "modem" or whatever equipment connects directly to whatever cable is bringing the Internet into your home. That modem in turn assigns a private IP address to your computer, generally something like 192.168.0.2. IP addresses are "leased" to your modem. Normally, if you do a simple power off and power back on your modem will pick up the same IP address. Leave it shut off for a while and that IP address may be allocated to another user, so when you power back up you'll get a different address.

At least, that's what I was taught somewhere along the way...

On the other hand, maybe you said something to annoy a bartender! You didn't win a hat someone wanted, did you? lol

Cheers,
Tom

P.S. Strictly speaking, those boxes aren't actually modems but since the first devices that were used to connect computers to the Internet actually were modems, that's what all such devices get called these days.

Your IP address has NOT been blocked. This is a problem at your internet service provider's end. They aren't blocking it either; their stuff is just messed up, or your router is hosed. Why would we pick one guy out of 13,000 to block??? We explained this in PM. Don't blame US.
