That's probably the best looking Fed IV crown I've seen RJR.View attachment 129853
My FED IV,A favorite.
Does the FEDIV Imperial or the FEDIV Deluxe grt any spidering/rumpling in the crown? I recieved an Akubra Campdraft Inperial Bluegrass Green recently and the spidering is throughout my bash.
I've not had that issue over several Akubras.Does the FEDIV Imperial or the FEDIV Deluxe grt any spidering/rumpling in the crown? I recieved an Akubra Campdraft Inperial Bluegrass Green recently and the spidering is throughout my bash.
It's been nearly three years since any of my Akubras were new, but I seem to recall at least one of them exhibiting the "spidering" you're referring to when I gave it it's first dry crease. As Scott wrote above, moisture helps with that and after spraying (soaking, really) my hats with distilled water to refine the crease all of those little imperfections went away as I shaped the felt.Does the FEDIV Imperial or the FEDIV Deluxe grt any spidering/rumpling in the crown? Assuming we're comparing Imperial Quality to Imperial Quality and Heritage Quality to Heritage Quality, I'd say yes. There might be minor variations that are inherent in the felting process, but unless you're doing an in-depth examination they shouldn't be noticeable. Is the FEDIV felt comparable to the thickness weight quality of the Campdraft?
As much as Hats Direct denies the Fed is based on the hats in the Indiana Jones franchise ("At no stage do we make any claim that this hat is a replica of the Indiana Jones hat as used in the movies."), it does seem they have altered/modified the Fed since it's initial release in 1998 to appease customers who wanted a "Raiders" hat, then a "Last Crusade" hat, and in it's current incarnation a "Crystal Skull" hat.Okay thanks. I wonder why they stopped making the Fediii with the wider brim.dies anyone own bithe Fediii & Fediv?
Is that the way it goes: each number corresponding to a movie installment? If so, I feel more than a little dumb for not realizing that by now. Good to know. Although, it is close to impossible to find a picture of a Fed or a Fed II.As much as Hats Direct denies the Fed is based on the hats in the Indiana Jones franchise ("At no stage do we make any claim that this hat is a replica of the Indiana Jones hat as used in the movies."), it does seem they have altered/modified the Fed since it's initial release in 1998 to appease customers who wanted a "Raiders" hat, then a "Last Crusade" hat, and in it's current incarnation a "Crystal Skull" hat.
@johnnycanuck has a Fed III, but I don't know if he has a Fed IV as well.
I don't know, but I'd doubt it since Hats Direct says the Federation was first produced in 1998--half way between The Last Crusade and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. @johnnycanuck was kind enough to share his experiences with three versions of the Fed in this thread, and that single post contains more information than I could possibly provide (though the Fed II remains a mystery). Is that the way it goes: each number corresponding to a movie installment? Thanks, man! That thread looks like fun reading.I don't know, but I'd doubt it since Hats Direct says the Federation was first produced in 1998--half way between The Last Crusade and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. @johnnycanuck was kind enough to share his experiences with three versions of the Fed in this thread, and that single post contains more information than I could possibly provide (though the Fed II remains a mystery).
By the way, please ignore my comments in post #2013 regarding the "Last Crusade" hat. It appears the Fed II and III were refined versions of the first Federation hat, which was modified as new and more accurate information about the "Raiders" hat(s) became available.
What, something like this?...It would be nice if Hats Direct would come out with a dark green Fed with a dark brown ribbon.
I have to ask, did you put a telescope crease in the crown? It seems a bit tapered. Not too tapered, just making an observation. What, something like this?
I think the angle of the photo gives the impression that the crown is more tapered than it actually is. All three of my Fed IVs currently have a Diamond crease, and...well, you be the judge:I have to ask, did you put a telescope crease in the crown? It seems a bit tapered. Not too tapered, just making an observation.
Haha! Yep. That looks great, don’t you think? What, something like this?
