I Lost The Basket For My Percolator Coffee Maker -

Another thread got me thinking about my percolator. I lost the basket during the move :/ I do have the tube though. Anyone know of a generic replacement basket?

I know they're "out of style" because people say the coffee is boiled, but I just think it tastes better than a drip maker. Certainly stronger.

I'd google the make and model perolator and see if direct replacement parts are available from the manufacturer.

Try thrift and second hand stores if you have time. They usually have sufferer kinds. You may be able to buy the whole percolator cheaper than a replacement part.

I do browse thrift stores from time to time, but they don't really have anything they consider "old" around here, it's mostly 80's and 90's stuff. I love my job. You have to live in Delaware to understand how backwards thinking/twilight zone it is. Everything happens outside the state. I used to go to Philly once or twice for swing dancing though, because it was only a little over an hour away in each direction. Nothing ever happens in Delaware.

The state can be summed up like this: A man rode a horse to Philadelphia and signed the state of Delaware into the union, and it became the first state of the United States. After that, nothing ever happened in Delaware. The state is divided into two, above and below the "ditch", which is the Chesapeake and Delaware canal. Above the ditch, is the north.......good food, restaurants, bars (even though they're empty). Below the ditch, farmers, airmen, and NASCAR. That's pretty much it sadly, lol.

Finding anything you can't buy in Home Depot, Wal*Mart or Sears is close to impossible here :(

Could you buy a new percolator and swap out the basket?

Lehman's has a selection of 6, 9, and 12 cups. http://www.lehmans.com/store/dyna/dynaL1nvsr?page_number=1

Vermont Country Store has a 6-cup.

I bet if you called either of the stores they could give you the manufacturer or even give you the dimensions of the basket (they would probably need to call you back). You could then buy the right size right from them, or even contact the manufacturer.

Alternatively, which might be easier or not for you in Delaware, I have seen percolators in camping stores and sports stores (for instance, Dick's Sporting) for camping. They are the blue and white enamel ware, but the inserts are stainless steel. These are probably the cheapest option, and you could take your model in to see if the basket will fit, rather than having to guess.

Thanks Sheeplady, I hadn't thought of a camping store.....I'm sure that would probably work out for me. I'll have to take the tube in and see if any will fit. Thanks :D

Glad to help. I hope it works out for you. :) I have fond memories of my grandmother's shiny percolator- the smell was wonderful! She used to pour this dark black coffee into these green jadite cups, then add half and half, and it would swirl around the cup. I was young and fascinated, I think that is the first time I recognized something as beautiful. (I do not drink coffee, but I have a percolator on hand for guests.) So I have this crazy, deep attachment to percolators for some strange reason, even as a non-coffee drinker. :p

I love my perc and you will pry it from unwilling hands. Not cold dead ones, that is reserved for my La Crueset cookware.

Solution to lost basket? That's easy. Hit the Sally Ann or thrift store/goodwill or antique mall in your area. There's bound to be another percolator somewhere. I see them all over the place.
