I love Texas. I visit often, but the PC , "treat everyone the same" mentality is taking over. Last year at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, we attended the post rodeo concert, and in an effort to treat everyone equally, the fellows selling plastic cups of beer in the stands had to ask for photo ID from EVERYONE! I'm 56 years old. Hello? Any common sense ? At least I was allowed to wear my Resistol. Again....I love Texas and Texans.

Regards, Gerry

Ask everybody for a photo ID? Wow! I would have been flattered ! :D

Don't modern gangs wear hoodies rather than hats anyway? This isn't the 1920s. I don't know what it's like in the US but here in England a person in a hat is though of as old fashioned and therefore respectable. Hoodies are frequently banned in shops and clubs etc. But I have never heard of a hat being banned.
I live in London, and I've been refused entrance into several normal establishments because I was wearing a hat. Nothing trendy mind you, once a vintage '40s Stetson, another time an Adventurebilt, and yet another time an Akubra. All broad-brimmed, nothing funky. I was wearing a suit and tie as well.

My wife was even stopped last week going into the Canadian pub near Trafalgar Square because she was wearing a hat!

Maybe you should organize a protest. 100 or so ladies and gents properly attired (with hats, of course) all carrying signs and chanting some variation of one of those old protest slogans. Fight the hatless (and clueless) power! Management unfair to Canadian Beavers!

Maybe those fellows from The Chap might take up the cause. Either that or start frequenting more abnormal establishments. It works for me.

Amazing how society goes from no longer spanking its children to not being able to wear hats in a generation!:rage: lol

That never happens here in Stafford where I live. The worst that happens is that some idiotic youths say "Inspector Gadget" to which fellow loungers have given me a number of good comebacks on the dumbest comment thread. But then there is hardly any violence or gang culture here, so there is no need to ban any type of clothing, least of all hats, which I have only ever seen worn by elderly men or myself.

In my case I think a hat would be more likely to get me entrance to a pub than deny me entrance (not that I have every tried this), since it makes me look older. When I got on the bus once the driver hardly believed I was sixteen just because of the hat and the greatcoat.

I'm glad I don't go out to the clubs anymore. Just when I have resided to the notion that I don't like people for no real reason in particular...you go and give me a reason!
Gee...when I was dating my wife thirteen years ago, we mostly went to a country bar here called Coyote's, and we both almost always wore a hat, as did 75% of the patrons.
We haven't been back in over 7 years or so...makes me wonder what the atmosphere is now.
So what's the deal? Are there roving gangs of thugs donning dapper fedoras whilst committing their criminal activities now? All we have here are idiot gang bangers wearing their pants around their knees and a ball cap on the back of their head sideways. Maybe I can influence them to seek out a more fashionable look. [huh]

I haven't had this pop up. In fact, I have been allowed access into places that had "No Hat" signs posted. My local theater doesn't allow hats or head gear but they gave me no hassle when I wore my lid last weekend.

"The small one on the far right with the pom pom on his hat was known in the underworld as "Lightfingers Spanky" or sometimes the alias "Three-Finger Spanky" (you don't want to know why), but to John Law his name was T-R-O-U-B-L-E. He eventually ended up doing a Dime in Levenworth after his lieutenant Alphalfa Moscowitz went canary with states evidence" --From 'Never Caught Napping. My Life of Crime in Our Gang' by Eunice "Little Darla" Buckwheat.

True Story

Back in the late 70, my friend, I'll call him Don, and I used to frequent a little bar in a rural VA town. Unfortunately, the establishment closed down due to the original owner's inability to stop drinking up the profits. We were greatly dissappointed. One day, we learned our favorite establishment was about to reopen. Apparently, some guy from the DC area bought it to give to his son to run. Well, on opening night Don and I sat down at the bar, looking forward to a pleasant evening. Don, as usual, was wearing his paint-splattered overalls and a western-styled hat (probably a Stetson). he was, after all, a farmer.

It turns out that sonny-boy had a more yuppie-fied clientele in mind. The barmaid approaches and tells Don, "you can't wear that hat in here." Don protested, explaining that it was a cowboy hat, and that it was perfectly acceptable to wear a cowboy hat indoors. No dice. She tells Don, the hat's coming off or you're leaving. So, we left.

Well, besides being a farmer, Don was from an old money virginia family. He was a multimillionaire. Within a week, he calls daddy, offers him more than he paid for the place, and consumates a deal to buy the business. The next time the barmaid saw Don wearing his cowboy hat, was when he fired her.

There are plenty of places that will happily take my money in exchange for precious, precious beer. I refuse to put up with lines, covers, dress codes or obnoxious bouncers for the privilege of spending my money on a beverage.

I won't put up with stupid dress codes or other silliness. Jacket and tie type dress codes; well, I generally know if I'm going to a place like that, and will dress appropriately. If someone references a gang problem in their establishment, then I don't need to be there at all. Places with bouncers and/or cover charges are usually a bit "young" for me, anyway. But in general, you're absolutly right; who wants to spend their money at a joint that treats them unfairly?

Gee, that sounds like half of my fantasies! :D It might have been more fun to keep the waitress, and give her a hat to wear (something fugly, of course). :whistling
