I've never tried fingerwaves, but if I get the inclination and figure them out, I will make a video on it :D Or maybe someone who is on here can? I used my digital camera, a video conversion software called RAD Video Tools (for turning a .mov file into a .avi file), and Windows Movie Maker.

You're completely welcome! :D I'm so glad this is helping! Also, if any of you feel that you want to save the video to your computer, you can use this nifty website to snag it - http://www.keepvid.com and post the URL address in there, and voila. You'll have to download a converter, or a flash player software, but if you think it's worth it, you can do it :D I ALWAYS save all the vintage hair files and tutorials I come across that I love, and I have saved some videos before.

Scroll down to pin tail combs:

Sally's has them too:

And for those in the UK, I an Ebay seller called sbs_uk - three row Denman teasing combs from here are are £3.50. If any of you US ladies want me to get some for you, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Fleur, those pics are lovely; I want to see you as Oldman though! Sexah! ;) How long did it take until you had perfected it? I tried for ages last night but failed dismally, so in the end, had to put my hair in a snood to go out in! Looked nice though! I'm thinking a rat might be the answer to all my troubles!

Thanks HS and Gok

Length of time - put it this way I ran the bath at 6.45 pm and didnt get in it until 8 pm!

Took me a good 25 mins but eventually after the failed attempts it all just fell into place.

I have to say that my hair is really fine so I had to resort to a little back combing at the root before rolling else it all collapsed!

Then after all that I had a bath and washed my hair lol

Aaahh, I was probably only at it for about 20 minutes. Yeah yeah yeah, but it seems ages to me, especially considering that I was in a lot of pain too. (I still can't raise my right arm very high and have now discovered I can't do back fastening frocks up either. :( )

My hair is insanely thick (and curly) - you'd think I'd have no problem, wouldn't you? Oh well, I shall give it another go. This is where it would be really handy to have girlfriends nearby. Or female relatives...full stop.

~landgirl~, yeah, you may have to let it grow out some. This hairstyle takes a bit of hair, however, you may still be able to fudge it some how, maybe with haircombs fixing the side up, and doing the rolls with the longest bit of your hair. If I had haircombs (picks?) I'd do another video to show you, but i'll have to make a trip to the store. This hairstyle is THE reason I grew my hair out. My hair used to be practically buzz cut!

I also have a fringe too.. do you think this hair style work with a fringe also?

Awww love thats not good that you are STILL in pain!

If I was closer I would come practice.

Oh to have a real live Girls World *sigh*

:D

PS - I NEARLY had a fringe put in again not so long ago and I am glad that I did not. Although the "fringe" part of my hair is shorter than the rest of it

I successfully did rolls with a fringe down and also rolled it into the rolls! It was pretty short, i just made sure it was blowdried up and worked in, and if any bits were falling out they were firmly hairsprayed into the rolls. It can be done!

I'm so glad making the video helped! I had seen other videos before on how to tease hair, and put hairsticks in so I was hoping this would really help. I'm a visual learner too, so that's one reason why I've been making videos. (I have been trying to make basic sewing videos too)
Basic Sewing videos? hmmmm... I´ll have to check those out!!!

Just a note that the pin comb and the pin tail comb are not the same. A pin tale comb is also a must have for our retro coifs as well tho!

Here's the pin tales that GOK listed,

These combs will tease nicely too, but you will have to take small sections. The tail tips are great to smooth or tuck a curl in place.

And the pin comb again, (with wavy metal teeth) You can tease a large section of hair with this and not as many 'swipes', much easier for thick hair.

Another good trick for teasing is to do the same number of "swipes" on each section of hair so it will come out evenly.

Hmm, I'm a little confused. It may be that I'm American, but I have no idea what "fringe" is when referring to hair. I'm assuming it's like layering or bangs?[huh] Oh nevermind! I did some researching and found out that it is called "bangs" in the US and Canada. So to answer your question, yes, it can be done. It wont look as full though, and it really depends on how long it is. I'd say 5-6 inches(approx 13-15cm) is a good length, or longer

Kim_B, yep, I sure am there too! Is your name the same over there?

RetroModelSari, I only have a basic threading the machine video up now and I am revising a better one right now, but I do plan on making more in the future. I also have a sewing blog with tips and ramblings http://diysewright.blogspot.com as well as a forum http://diysewright.forumup.com if you need help with something - I do my best to help.

Also, the website hosting my video has been down for a while. Sorry about that.

I hope it helps you guys out :D I'm in the process of making more videos.

The tulle wasn't toooo bad because it was just skinny strips of it, but it was lengthy, and a bit confusing.

I'm gonna do it...gonna cut my hair vintage!

Ok so my hair has been this frizzy waist length layered mess for a while. it looks great if I set it and holds really well but on those days I don't it just looks horrid. So I'm going to do it! After a ton of research I'm going to have my stylist do a 1940's cut. I printed out a ton of pics of Lana, Veronica, Ava...all the really great examples I could find, gonna have a chat with her about it from the other resources that you wonderful ladies have provided and let her have her way with it....I hope I don't regret this lol. Luckily I trust her and she always makes me look good so I know she'll do great. After I get it done and as soon as I find the camera I'll post pics!
