On that hairpin note, Ohairas, could you post a link of pin curl clips? I always thought that they were hairpins called by another name...could explain a lot of confusion on my end.

Sure! These are pin curl clips, (single prong clippies), they have pointed ends,

These are roller clips, double prong,
http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/2230/292503

Here are finger wave clips, but if you can find vintage ones they come in all different lengths and some are curved,

These are rats to form precise rolls and such, you can cut these on one side to make long ones or they might have the single long ones too,

Hey! Just found these white bobby pins, would be great for platinum blondes!

Rosie I could be wrong, but I *think* it reverse rolls just means that you are rolling each side of your hair towards each other. Even if you do three or more rolls on top, the side silhouette needs to be the same.
Regular rolls you can put wherever you like. That's my take on it anyhow, lol!

Here's another link,

I can't see all of the pics. :( I particularly want to see the AA vintage styles. :(

I hope you guys are successful! It's difficult until it just clicks, that's all I can really say. Please post pictures!

I have long hair too, and I twist it around my fingers first, I know you aren't supposed to do that with pincurls, but I did because it's just so long I CANNOT just wheel it toward my head. I don't know how she does it with her hair being so long, but mines about 3-4 inches past my shoulders.

Rosie, thanks! And to answer your question the best I can, I've always pretty much seen people label this sort of hairstyle with the two rolls facing each other, like ohairas said. I would assume that if you were to roll your hair the opposite way than this, they would just be rolls. It would look completely different.

And thanks for all the pictures and links, ohairas! Very informative :D

I use the double prong clips for my pin curls and I find them better than the single prong clips. I have long long hair and the double prong ones keep everything in place well. If you're interested in getting either of the clips splurge on the big box, 100 count I believe. IMHO, Easier than trying to find that one last clip you need to finish.

Thank you for that, HS I shall definitely be giving it a go later! Do you think it would work on damp hair? Mine seems to be more manageable when not completely dry.

Surely! I believe so. I've done it plenty of times with a pompadour before. Albeit, I used gel and my hair was more than damp. I really think it will work with damp hair. I don't do it with completely dry hair. I used hairspray first to get my reverse rolls to stay, so really, my hair was damp. I just did it dry real quickly for the video.

Here's an example of the pompadour I was talking about. It's the same concept, but for a different effect.

I sure hope that video helps you out :D And you'd probably want to spend more time making it look nice than I did. I usually don't twist it THAT much, but i wanted a mostly unedited video.

Okay I had a go just before I got in the bath (so no make up alert if you click on the thumb nails).

It took me ages until it clicked - hence the perspiration and not very impressed expression lol

Thank goodness I was able to get in the bath afterwards!

Oh I also have a pic where taken at an angle I smack of Gary Oldman in Bram Stokers Dracula!!!!

I'm so glad making the video helped! I had seen other videos before on how to tease hair, and put hairsticks in so I was hoping this would really help. I'm a visual learner too, so that's one reason why I've been making videos. (I have been trying to make basic sewing videos too)

~landgirl~, yeah, you may have to let it grow out some. This hairstyle takes a bit of hair, however, you may still be able to fudge it some how, maybe with haircombs fixing the side up, and doing the rolls with the longest bit of your hair. If I had haircombs (picks?) I'd do another video to show you, but i'll have to make a trip to the store. This hairstyle is THE reason I grew my hair out. My hair used to be practically buzz cut!

Thank you RetroModelSari! :D

GREAT job Fleur! They look lovely on you!

Great idea on the video. Hair styling diagrams always seem confusing. Rolls and curls I have... I wish someone would do one on fingerwaves.
