I, too, dislike my name. At least, though, I was named Karol-with-a-K.

Carol, which was most popular in the 1940's, means melody or song, specifically, it is now seen as a Christmas song. Karol-with-a-K means nothing, which is fine. I have the same name as the late pope, it is a male name in Eastern Europe, was most popular in the US as a girl's name in the 1930's - 50's.

Why couldn't I have been named after one of the bad girls in the bible? Now, those are names: Delilah, Jezebel, Bathsheba, Salome. Or after someone in classical antiquity: Antigone, Jocasta, Phaedra; or Shakespeare: Rosalind, Viola, Desdemona.

Alas, I have a twinky song name.

It always ranked in the top 1000 over the last 100 years but it became really popular way after I was born. No wonder I hear my name always bandied about when I am in stores and in public---usually by some woman scolding her child. :eusa_doh:
At least it means Just or True. Fairly apt considering I am always ferreting out the truth in any situation.
My son's name has always been in the top 50. Its number seven in the 90s. I got it from my father who was born in the 30s when it was number 40. Geez, an old name has become more popular than it once was. I suppose the meaning of the name is a little intimadating to a father who is correcting a child's behavior---God is my judge.

Martti, which wasn't on the survey at all. It's a Finnish man's name - my great-grandfather's to be exact. I love my name!

Marty was most popular in the 60s, but didn't crack the top 300.
