How to get pale, luminous skin?

I certainly don't idolise her, and I am sure if I had half the time she has on her hands I would be able to get myself looking pretty darn perfect too (at the moment its all i can do to shave my legs regularly)

I would like her skills and her income. thats as far as it goes.

Was she a fashion model first? I first remember her being a sensation with the Calvin Klein ads. I don't think I knew the difference between the two types of models at the time. The "glamour" models were the more well-known, and more visible. When Kate burst on the scene for CK, she was much more visible than your average fashion model.

As far as I know she still is and always has been a fashion model. Glamour models are basically porno models. Playboy and stuff like that. Or less extreme stuff like page 3 (here in the uk there are a few 'newspapers' (not in my opinion!) that have a topless girl on page 3 everyday), and lads mags. They are the big fake boobs kinda models.

I will fully admit, I first became obsessed with sun avoidance in my mid-teens, after seeing some famous dermatologist on the Today show, who said the single biggest cause of aging and wrinkles was the sun. And it's worse on us who are already pale! Plus, I'm just too lazy for those self-tanners, and too impatient.

I love all types of great skin, in all colors. I'm jealous of anyone with great skin, because mine is...not. lol

I don't like being tanned because I was born milky white and that's how I like to be! lol. I really hate the orange look when people have used too much fake tan! It looks terrible. And if it's sunny out then I want to be doing something and take advantage of the nice day instead or laying there for hours trying to change my skin colour.

I don't have a problem with stripping. I just think it's pathetic the way people idolise her when imo she hasn't done anything all that great.
If she had cured a disease or written a Pulitzer Prize winning novel that would be something.
She's also a PeTA spokesmodel which is another strike in my book.
I find most PeTA spokes people are as hypocritical as the organization itself but that's a whole other topic.
You ladies can admire whoever you want.

Oh, and Kate Moss has been around alot longer than her CK days.

As a woman who works in the field of biology, I also get irritated that it's the celebrities that get all of the attention and adoration. But, I try not to get too upset about it, this is, unfortunately, human nature. The scientist in me knows that evolution has made us a species that values certain physical traits (mainly in women) and wealth/power (mainly in men) above many other worthy attributes. Maybe we'll eventually evolve further, beyond this.

I heard Dita say in an interview that she loves fois gras, and this has gotten her in trouble with PETA, so I don't think she subscribes to all of their beliefs. I'm not a exactly a giant fan of PETA, but the ad Dita did was to promote spaying/neutering of pets, to help keep so many strays from having to be euthanized. A worthy cause, and not one of PETA's more controversial ones.

She was discovered in 88. So that would have put me in high school.
She is known for the waif look. Do you like Twiggy?

I remember Nikki Taylor from all of the teen magazines. Didn't she have some family tragedies not too long ago? I think she has had some rough spots recently.

I remember Nikki Taylor from the early 90's when I was in jr high. She was real skinny in her younger days but then gained weight as she got older. The family tradegy involved her younger sister Krissy who was also a model. She died of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy or ARVC at the age of 17. Then she was in a serious car accident leaving her unconcious for a few weeks and having to undergo several operations.

Thanks so much for the tips on sunscreen girls! One of my friends is also fair, and recommended olay as they have a 30+ sunscreen which is suitable for the face

Thanks also for the link to the Jelly Pong Pong stuff, that looks great! I'll definitely have to look into it! I've been using the palest avon foundation I could get, and mixed with a little water it kinda works, but I'd still prefer something closer to my natural skin tone. I'm not one for usually wearing makeup everyday because I find I look way too made up and the foundation is very visible over my pale skin. I usually only wear full makeup when costuming (because camera flashes wash you out!!) but I would like to start wearing it everyday, if only as a confidence boost for myself Plus with my newly black hair, I need to make sure I have colour!

Wow! I've never seen Dita without her makeup on! I think she looks so adorable without makeup! She does look gorgeous all dolled up, but wow she looks so cute without it! I didn't even recognise her!

When I got my hair dyed black, I was chatting to the hairdresser about possibly going blonde (I'd just bought a blonde wig), and how that would look with my pale skin. We agreed that if I went blonde (Don't worry, not ever going blonde, only with wigs!) I would need a good amount of makeup, especially blush, to give me some colour so I didn't wash out. And then that got me thinking.... My favourite Aussie actresses are all very pale, BUT they're also all blondes: Cate Blanchett, Miranda Otto and Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts. Hahah I don't know really what that has to do with stuff, but I found it fascinating!

I tried on cristalline powder from Chanel, it is a limited edition, but is looks amazing on, first it looks a teeny tad sparkly, but after it has been worked a littl bit into the skin it looks so good, a little bit luminous, not glowy or dewy (which can look sweaty on pics)! It is a pure white powder, but doesn't turn ghostly or grey on the skin. I am not completely fair. I am definitly putting it on my wishlist!!

That sounds really amazing, there's a No 7 powder that sounds like that I'm looking to check out...

You know I really dislike the idea of limited edition cosmetics, time and time again I've found products that have worked beautifully and have loved... only not to be able to buy them a few months later. There was a Ghost perfume that I loved and can't have any more, and a lot of different moisturisers and eye-shadows...

What's the deal with this? xx

Rimmel's "Recover" foundation is amazing.It claims to be illuminating and fight the look of fatique and believe me ...it does.I have always found Rimmel's foundations work well for me, but this one takes the cake.

Well you already have them. You can't help that. But you can keep from getting new ones. I use regular Oil of Olay with SPF and that helps me.
I put it on under my makeup. I use either Physicians Formula Mineral Wear for everyday and work and I use Max Factor Pan Cake with Coty Airspun powder when I want a vintage look. So neither of those have SPF right but the Olay takes care of that and it seems like the makeup sets better.

I find that I use a foundation (fluid or cream) that is darker than my skintone - I don't flake, but go lighter in the same product - I flake!! And since I am a beauty product collector, I take very good care of my skin, it is always well kept, moisturised and I have tried 5+ of foundations for my new pale self ( I haven't used self tan in many months, and lots of high spf).

I have normal skin - tendency to flake on the nose when a light (proper colored) foundation is applied - with or without primer.

For a color reference, I have been using MAC studio fix fluid foundation in NC20 but it is too yellow for my normaly yellow/neutral skintone. so a foundation recommendation in that end of the colorspectrum would be great!

Has anyone ever tried papaya soap? I've heard people say it works very well. It's a product of the philippines, probably found in oriental stores, and it's supposed to lighten your skin. I'm thinking of trying it out on my arms because I have the worst farmers tan ever (you can see it a bit in my avatar, haha)! For now, I'm just using Lancome's SPF 50 sunscreen on my face and arms, and it seems to be working fine.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is mineral foundation? I've heard it mentioned many times here, but I have no idea. Is it powder foundation (like Besames compact)? Please let me know!
